I just had a deja vu. In 1987, this commercial was made for Hawaiian Punch but apparently never aired. I had the pleasure of speaking to one of the creators back then and was able to use part of the piece for a corporate video I worked on. I just think this was awesome, not only because of the animation at the time, but it's actually a pretty funky song. Enjoy!

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidDang, all that creation, direction, hired actors/dancers and it never even aired. What an absolute waste of effort, time, and money. For television it is way too long as a commercial. But very impressive, nonetheless, for something nearly twenty-five years old.

Well I'm sure they were paid...

    Great vid. Thanx for posting.

I suppose that was one of the attempts to change image after it was no longer considered acceptable to 'punch' someone?

Had a random thought here.....given some of the strong statements in some of the recent forum posts, the commerical above should apply to RJ......

RowBuddy saidi used to drink that stuff all the time in the 80's. But after they switched to High Fructose Corn Syrup it just does not taste quite like it used to.

p.s. What the heck was the Mascot wearing on his head? Antlers?

All the sodas don't taste the same after the switch to HFCS. I finally found a place in NYC that has Mexican Coke (still uses sugar) because I love to have a coke roughly once a month.

That video is awesome!!! I can't believe that it is so old and agree that it is such a waste that it didn't air.

Yeah, now that I remember back, the company I worked for, even though they allowed the clip to be in the beginning of a manufacturing technology video I worked on, was a little hesitant because the video makes it look like robots are taking over the work of humans. Back in 1987, lots of jobs were being lost because of that. Stupid, I know.

I'm not sure why Hawaiian Punch people didn't air it though.

I used to LOVE Hawaiian Punch...
When I was a teenager, my mom and I used to bar-b-que hamburgers and drink Hawaiian Punch while watching "Adventures In Paradise". Living that kind of life (the TV show) was my dream...to sail the South Pacific. This is why I tell young people all the time.... follow your dream NOW..because someday it might be too late!!

I think it's supposed to be a stylized straw hat, to evoke the idea of Hawaii. I always thought the violence was kinda unfunny.

That unaired commercial reflects some of the things that were happening in music videos at that time. Though it was still advanced, in my view.
