That used to be true. Now all we can do is out-quarrel, driven by the right-wing's ruthless quest for power. I remember a more civil US, before the Right learned that it could seize control through dissension, rather than discourse.

As a result, today we are fractured, polarized and weakened, and not about to compete globally with anyone. I think part of Obama's tactic is to refocus the US beyond intramural warfare. But I ffear it's too late for that, and as usual, the Republicans will sabotage him at every turn, as they have publicly pledged to do, and have done for the last 2 years.

All joking aside though. The USA to my limited knowledge is still a big player and highly competitve around the world in heavy manufacturing equipment, scientific equipment, medical equipment etc. Companies like the mentioned GE and it's subsidiaries are just one for example. tI's in the manufacture of smaller more consumer oriented products and the clothing industry which have been decimated the most at home and those are two areas that employed many many people.
It's going to take China and India to fully open their doors and level the playing field before any big changes happen.

My President is kissing corporate asses because he wants to get re-elected, and he knows that the Republican Supreme Court gave corporations the right to choose who gets elected to office.

Our only chance is to replace Scalia, Kennedy, Thomas, Alito, or Roberts with a screaming liberal, you know, someone who cares more about the law and the people and the country than they do about their own personal agenda.

One finds it amusing that another here is obsessed with status, and power. Yet resents another from doing it even better and more successfully than they; maybe some how they fool themselves they are somehow bettericon_lol.gif

God you got this right !!!

And the Neo Cons through two BIG OIL is king makers Bush and Cheney borrowed our way into fiscal irresponsibility in two wars, and unpaid for tax relief for the rich (how'd that work for our nations job creating by the way).

Bush Stood by when when warned by a certain Governor that deregulation was about to bring down our banking system, the warnings to do something to ward off the crash, was answered by Bush and company instead going to work to maintain status quo, they worked finding some dirt and brought him down to shut him up. The crash came about within the next 18 months. Yessirreee !!!! No one can compete with us thats for sure !!! the Banking problem that bush ignored warnings about nearly brought down the rest of the worlds banking systems. Now that sure gives us bragging rights doesn't it.

Now think about if China were to call those Notes while we're hollering at them about their "HUMAN RIGHTS RECORD", and keep in mind that most of the money we owe them is for the two illegal wars, where the "HUMAN RIGHTS RECORD" was anything but stellar. Quite a record there too for Bragging rights eh !!!!!! GDAMN the Neo Cons who got us in this F'n mess and took with it our credibility !!! How unpatriotic of me to say so !!!!

But nows the time to be 'partiotic' and don't mention that stuff, GOD IS ON OUR SIDE !!!!! So fight them on their own land CAUSE THEY HATE OUR FREEDOMS !!!!! Pass a beer, drink to our patriotic greatness, and damn the pinko queers who are against the wars, Oh !!!! where's my piece of Apple Pie to eat while we listen to the Christian Right sing the Star Spangled Banner !!! WE ARE THE GREATEST !!!!!

No !!! Actually any informed population the world over sees clearly that we have made ourselves out the be the early joke of the 2000's.

please excuse the rant against the facade of American Exceptionalism, If conservatism would only stop standing in the way of progress we could perform an exceptional recovery, but will they ???
