Has anybody else seen the banners for John McCain on the site recently? That's curious. I wonder who thought that advertising on a gay fitness community website was a good strategic move? Or is it? Discuss.

LOL !!! McCains adds on a gay site are about as redundant as it would be for a group of straight guys to go gay bar hopping to find "HOT CHICKS" !!! McCain sure isn't going to find many votes from gays who pay any attention to republican politics. His adds just remind me to keep putting out information against the repugnants policies and their candidate for president.

well there are always the log cabin republicans and it is true that there are hundreds of thousands of gays and lesbians so he may have a chance.

i think he probably showed up because of google ads and you may have search something election 08 related or political, so its not really that he is targeting a gay site but rather google ads puts it on random.

I have seen Romney ads on here, and some other republican politician on gay.com lol.

RealJock sets a price and McCain's camp pays it, knowing that they'd be wasting their money "preaching to the choir" on other sites like foxnews.com.

It's smart of the McCain camp to go recruiting votes in democrat territory. After all, Howard Dean went into traditionally republican states and snagged some surprising seats for the democratic party back in '06.

Not really too anti-gay. GET A CLUE!
The gay supports a constitutinal ammendment to bad gay marrige. He thinks "Don't ask, don't tell" is working just great. He said he will seek to appoint Federal judges in the mold of Thomas and Scalia.

The mere fact that some body thinks that they can be Republican and Gay is beyond me. That is akin to a Jewish person in 1930 Germany wanting to be a Nazi.

Their answer to every thing is let the People decide especially about Gay Marriage. GOP uses it as a lighting rod to get out thier people to vote. Marriage and who you marry is a Civil Right established by the SC when they ruled against the State of Virginia in the case of Loving v. Virginia. VA had a law on the books preventing inter racial marriage. Love to see Justice Thomas argue that Loving v. VA was wrong.

Concerning The GOP spending money here, bring it on. a fool and his money are soon parted

Oh quit being a drama queen! No one is putting you in an oven so kwitcherbellyakin.

Some of us place our country and culture ahead of our personal preferences. I'd like to see the marriage option there for us but there are bigger fish to fry.
I'm a Gay Republican and I volunteer for Equality Toledo to get equal treatment in Ohio for the LGBT community. What do you do joe?

John i do not vote Republican They used an Anti Gay Marriage issue to push their agenda. Marriage is a Civil Right as defined by the SC repealing laws that prevented inter racial marriages. I just think some things are not political and sex is one of those areas.

Hate to use your own words against you John, but this makes you sound like you're on my side of this issue. I know you're not, but gosh, what a fortuitous choice of words you've got there.

I know your argument is that terrorists are taking away our country and culture, and our "personal preferences" are our gay-ness, right? Or do I not know you? And that McCain is a way better defender of us against the terrorists, right?

Anyway, I don't see McCain as the maverick and hard-ass lapel-pin-wearing defender of our country as you (must). I think he's kind of a puss, having switched positions on lots of things I could have admired him for.

If he (gulp) gets elected president, I'd only hope the old-ish McCain makes a comeback (the one who ran against GWB).

*ducking under the leftwing/rightwing live ammo rounds*

Just a geeky technical point. The OP implies that the McCain camp and/or RJ is making some explicit human-involved decision to show McCain ads on RJ. Not a good assumption.

Most all web advertising is controlled by giant computer brains in the sky (to use a highly technical term). The matching between an ad and the web page it ends up displayed on is a function of a number of bits of data about that page, including the text on the page, the context of the page, the links to and from the page, the previous results of other ads placed on that page, etc. None of this involves humans.

RJ just signs up for one of these ad serving systems (Google is but one of them) and the systems decide where McCain ads appear, not McCain's campaign, and not RJ.

There are human-mediated ads placements too, but they are the minority nowadays.

The fact that the McCain ads tend to appear on political threads where political words are being used is a dead giveaway that these ads are automatically placed by computers, not people. So the OP's original question is really asking us to discuss the effectiveness of a very generic computer ad matching algorithm that has absolutely nothing to do with politics.

My opinion on such algorithms is that they seem wildly successful, if your metric is money made by major web advertising agencies (e.g. Google).
