If we're on the subject of Australian bands, then may I post Yves Klein Blue, pretty please? icon_biggrin.gif Not only did they go to my uni and sometimes still perform in the student bar, but this video was shot in the Mt. Cootha Botanical Gardens in Brisbane, Queensland which I used to go to when I was 17 and just needed some time to myself. Ah, nostalgia! Here it is:

Salem is a band from my state of Michigan. There is also a band from Florida and from the UK with the same name, but this is the better one. They remind me a little bit of Crystal Castles.

Ooo, well I'd like to introduce two French groups that you might never have heard of in the Anglophonie (English-speaking world).

First one is Paris Combo, a jazz group. Love love love what they do, and my favourite is 'Moi, mon âme et ma conscience'. Belle du Berry sings about her me, myself and I and how they talk together night and day, never giving her any rest. So her 'me' tells her that he's had enough, and the chorus ends by her saying 'for me, my life is a nightmare'.

They sing in French, but occasionally their hooks are in English, of which 'Living Room' comes to mind.

Then Tryo. They have this awesome reggae sound and have some good 'social commentary' songs too. This one is 'Toi et moi', sort of a love song, but the verses are all social commentary:

Here's my rough translation of the lyrics:

    You and Me

This morning, three thousand bachelor graduates,
    firemen's strike,
Gridlock and pollution for the Paris agglomeration
This morning, Abbé Pierre has died, we bury him on TF1 (French TV channel)
Two hobos found dead near Canal Saint-Martin
This morning, the CAC (stock exchange) advances,
Two soldiers less for the West
    Ten civilian deaths in Baghdad
in the bloody arms of the Jihad.

    [First Chorus]
You and me, in all this, we don't appear,
We content ourselves to be here,
We love each other, and then there, we love each other.

    This morning, bird flu threat,
    too much fascism in Bavaria,
Iran is working on the nuclear and Areva takes over the Niger.

This morning, report on the climate,
    Only rats would survive,
Melting ice in Alaska and heatwaves in Angola.

[First Chorus] + You and me, in time, amongst our children,
    Nobody anymore, more people,
More wind, we love each other.

This morning, hanging of Saddam, the UNO decries it a scandal,
Tibet is dying under the bullets
of a China making it its capital.

    [Full chorus]

This morning, it's nearly a beautiful day,
That's great, I woke up early,
With the rooster and birds, without the newspapers and the weather report.

This morning, I get going on another day with you my love,
This day will last forever, we will never go around it.

    [Full chorus]

Haha they are pretty recognize though... Well I always hear their songs on 98.7 and 106.7 fm in LA! I love fader by them! Good song while Im driving through traffic to school.

Hmmmm my recommendation would be Black Keys. Well nvm they gotten pretty big this year, I hate when bands I like become to big! Hmmm Emily Haines is good, you might know from other bands. I do really like Foster The People, just heard of them for the first time on the radio today.

I'm going to add some Crystal Castles..Maybe they were recognized but I wasn't listening to them when they came out so they may have been entirely overlooked..
