    Hey all,

I went on a ~4 mile run just a couple of hours ago, and my right knee is in serious pain.
I applied some icy hot and wrapped it, but it's hurting a lot and I can't really bend it.

do u guys know of anything else I can do to make it go away?

    thnx

    Keep it iced...
    Take some anti-inflammatories
and if it doesn't subside in a few hours get to the ER

Skip the Icy/Hot. Use ice. Keep leg elevated.

you need to find the tight muscles in your body that are causing your knee to pull or feel tight/pain .

i suggest you research kinetic chain assesments.
    and get practice active stretching.

if it's more than just a sore pain and more nerve ..go see a dr..it might be something worse.

    Hey guys

thanks a lot for your suggestions; I put some ice on it for a little while and I'm starting to feel a difference (i dont know why I always thought the ice wasn't efficient..ha)

It's a little late now, but for future reference, NEVER NEVER NEVER put icy/hot or any of it counter parts on and then wrap the area. The wrap insulated the ointment and can cause a chemical burn.

First steps when an injury occurs (the first 24 hours) it's best to RICE it

R - Rest, as easy as it sounds, stay off of it
I - Ice, ice it. Ice is your friend. For you knee just ice bags. 20 minutes, try to get at least 5 on / off cycles a day.
C - Compression - Wrap it in an ace bandage. Always start from the bottom and work your way to the top. This pushes the swelling out of the knee and into the thigh and torso where is can be spread out more.
E - Elevate it. Keep it above the heart if possible, if not then just keep it up. For your knee, while you are resting, lay on your back or lounge to where your knee can sit on some pillows

And go see a MD if you really think something is wrong. No more then 4 days after if it still hurts go see a doc.

oh wow, thanks A LOT, redneck4life; that was some awesome advice that I'll keep in mind for later.

I tried the RICE thing and now it feels a lot better.

    Thanks again icon_biggrin.gif

    Hey Redneck4life,

Nah I didn't go see an MD because after the RICE trick it felt a lot better. I even went on a short run yesterday despite my roommates trying to stop me... what can I say? I'm stubborn LoL!

    Thank u icon_exclaim.gificon_smile.gif
