The 'Glee' vs. Kings of Leon rivalry just grew serious.

A number of months ago, the rock band declined to allow the FOX series 'Glee,' about a high school choir, to cover its songs in a future episode. 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy, in a feature in The Hollywood Reporter published Wednesday, hit out at the band.

Here's how Nathan Followill, the drummer of the band of brothers, replied via Twitter:
"Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra. Zip your lip and focus on educating 7yr olds how to say fuck."

Murphy is openly gay, and the show deals with many issues faced by homosexual students in high school.

Realizing how his comments could be seen, Followill later tweeted:

"I'm sorry 4 anyone that misconstrued my comments as homophobic or misogynistic. I'm so not that kind of person. I really do apologize."
Still, he hasn't taken down the original post.

Followill was enraged by this quote from Murphy:

    "F--- you, Kings of Leon,"
Murphy said via the magazine. "They're self-centered assholes, and they missed the big picture. They missed that a 7-year-old kid can see someone close to their age singing a Kings of Leon song, which will maybe make them want to join a glee club or pick up a musical instrument. It's like, OK, hate on arts education. You can make fun of Glee all you want, but at its heart, what we really do is turn kids on to music."

King's of Leon sounds awesome! It's about time a music group stood up and told Glee what it is: a semi-comedic yet painfully gay musical after gay musical reverbed down version of a gen X homosexual male's played out fantasy of when they were in show choir back in high school. Not everyone wants to be a part of this retarded fad, for the same reason many people didn't like Kids Incorporated 20 something years ago.

I'm sorry are you in high school to make this assertion that it's a fad springing up in high schools across North America?

And is it a danger? Don't people have a say in what fad they wish to belong to? And funnily enough, I can see Glee as having their own special episode about it too...

It doesn't matter if King's Of Leon doesn't like Glee. It's really their loss if they don't want their songs covered on the show. Regardless of how I view their music (which I'm starting to really like), or how I feel about Glee (which I love), Glee's ratings are through the roof. If they don't want to bring their popularity to a boil by giving it the publicity Glee had in store for them, they are dumb.

But hell, it took them a couple of records to get noticed, maybe they like the hard way.

Bottomline: KOL doesn't "need" glee....can't see any benefit for them to be on the show 'cos I doubt that many of their fans are watching glee, lol.

Yeah, and shutting down their music to a whole new crowd of people was a smart idea. I hope you're job isn't in public relations or advertising at any rate.

    Um.... that wasn't homophobic.
Please, please, don't turn gays into one of those groups that turns any negative attention into hate speech so no one can speak against them.

Seriously, that was bullshit and he even stated that he wasn't being homophobic or misogynistic (it was rather misogynistic though icon_eek.gif ).
I wouldn't want glee covering my songs if I were a musician either. Blech. The dude essentially attacked his masculinity, that could be a gay dig or it could not be. I'm going to give him this one. [shrug]

(and yeah, my defense of his tweet lessened in the course of my post, I'm aware icon_smile.gif Still, the thread title was a gross exaggeration, let's not let that become the norm)

Not necessarily. If their fans are so die hard over them and think they're sell outs if they submit to Glee, then it will be a loss. Then again they could gain more homosexual fans, but I doubt that's what they really want.

Best thing that has been stated and will be stated throughout this entire thread.

Silliness. On a side note, was I the only one the find their Sex on Fire video slightly homoerotic?

if that's not homophobic to an openly gay person then i don't know what is..
perhaps he didn't know Ryan was gay in which yes, then it was misogynistic, but I am not sure if I wanna give him the benefit of the doubt...I would query whether his extremely Catholic upbringing has had some sort of subconscious effect on his demeanor towards the church's 'enemies'

as for not wanting 'Glee' to cover the music, that's fine, it's his decision but there are 1000 better and non-homophobic/misogynistic ways of saying it... although in a situation like this, I would reserve my judgement until we know JUST how hard Murphy pressed him..

Not everyone is a money grubbing publicity whore. I mean, I'm totally one. I would totally work for Glee if they gave me lots of money (because I like money more than I hate Glee). But you have to respect that these guys DON'T want this kind of attention. They probably don't want to debase their image with the image of Glee associated with them. As a matter of fact, I would NEVER want to hear any of King of Leon's songs molested into a cookie-cutter dry-reverb gay choir anthem that I hear 40 year old fags sing along to in their BMWs as they drive by.

Good for Kings of Leon. Good for them. If anything, Glee screaming "rape" for KOL's refusal is merely giving them more attention. In fact I know their name now and didn't before because of this.

KoL Headlining Coachella this year. Doubt this matters.

If my favorite band was on Glee, I'd probably be disappointed. Unless they were a highly political band that used Glee to get their message across to the mainstream...which obviously Glee would probably not ever do a "Rage Against the Machine" (or some other political band) episode or song

(Never watched it, so I don't even know what the format is. I'm just a promoter, dj and music fan. I actually don't even really like RATM).

    Well said.

If Glee featured Kirsty Hawkshaw (nevermind who she is if you haven't heard of her) I would kill myself.

That is the headline of the source article.

The link is even in the post but if you are too lazy to click it, well, not much I can do about that. (well, I suppose I could get someone to go over, help you move your mouse, click, and read it to you.)

Please, please, don't turn RJ posters into one of those groups that has to have everything spoon-fed to them.

It's ok that not all bands want their music on Glee. I can't stand that show myself. But the original tweet the KOL asshole sent was homophobic.

Sex on Fire vid homoerotic? Perhaps. I saw the Use Somebody vid and I could almost swear I saw his ass in a jock strap. WTF?

I can understand why he would not want his music bastardized on a shit show like glee.
