Birth Order: Oldest, Youngest or Middle Child?

If you are not an only child, are you the oldest, youngest or a middle child in the birth order rank of your siblings?

I am the oldest of four. My sister (the only and thus oldest female child) is also gay. My uncle was the youngest. Two friends of mine who are gay were the youngest in their families.

I am not attempting to postulate or prove any theories. Merely curious.

I am the youngest of my mother's first marriage, 3 older siblings. I do have a younger sister from my mother's second marriage, but she is 11 years younger than me.

I'm the youngest, I have an older brother.

My gay uncle on my mothers side is the oldest of 12 children.

Middle of 3 boys. Isn't something about the order that influences the production of a gay child. I think it is more likely after a mother has one child.

I had a gay great uncle.

I have often noted that I seem a rare gay oldest child. Which is part of why I posed the question. My sister and I were discussing it earlier.

I have an older brother and a younger sister.

This seems sort of typical, from what I gather.

The fraternal birth order effect is the strongest known predictor of sexual orientation; according to various studies, each older brother increases a man's chances of developing a homosexual sexual orientation by from 28% to 48%.[1][2][3][4] Even so, the fraternal birth order effect only accounts for a maximum of one seventh of the prevalence of homosexuality in men.[5] There seems to be no effect on sexual orientation in women, and no effect related to the number of older sisters.

"It is hypothesized that the fraternal birth order effect may be caused by increasing levels of antibodies produced by the mother to the histocompatibility Y-antigen with each son."

Evidently, you really irritated your mother's immune system and got her antibody level right up there the first time.

Ok, ok...she could have just been sensitive and you werent abnormally irritating.

runinthecity ---- your not alone any longer ha !!! I am the oldest of 3 sons, but like you I haven't met other gay guys who are the oldest amongst several siblings. I know of several gays who are only children though. INTERESTING !!!! (hadn't really thought about it before)

Hmm, perhaps if she knew this, she could stop blaming herself and blame me! Wouldn't that be fun! Of course, then they'd prove it was genetic and she could blame her mother, which would in fact bring existential perfection to her world. icon_lol.gif

They may not count in the data you cited from Wikipedia, but for the purposes of this thread, I'm still curious of members' overall sibling order. All these youngests....
