Live in NC and looking for a cheap and very gay friendly place to travel, seems the airfare continue to go up no matter what city/country we have looked at.

Check out some of the smaller and mid sized cities and towns in the Eastern US. Gay life is not confined just to the big cities and the coasts.

If you don't have a real spot selected before a two weeks ahead and don't mind doing some last minute planning, use priceline to try and get some last minute cheap flights to a place you'd like to go, like SF. Might find it would be a great deal but just have to hope on last minute.

With the word vacation I am thinking you want more tropical or serene.

Otherwise, one spot I love is Campit, in Saugatuck Michigan. It is a gay owned/operated campsite and I find myself loving it every summer I go for weekends.

    Try Ogunquit, ME

You can fly into nearby Manchester, NH and take the 45 minute drive to the coast...

The Ogunquit Inn is a great place to stay, great rates...

I just booked a flight from JFK to SFO last Monday (sort of a last minute urge) using Priceline and got a $275 round trip end of February. Pretty Sweet! I'm staying from Thursday to Sunday. I'm looking to spend no more than $500. There's always deals out there, you just gotta be patient and look for it.

Priceline changes it prices pretty much throughout the day. I just kept on researching every 15-30 minutes and price changes.

I'm from NYand people assume NY is expensive but there are bunch of places you can stay on the cheap. Try staying in a cheap motel in Queens and take the subway to the city. Most people want to stay in Manhattan (and goodluck with the price with that) but there are bunch of places within the boroughs that are decent enough to stay.

As for transportation, the best way to get around the city is by foot.

Food? Well, if you're on a budget, hotdogs and bagels on the sidewalks icon_smile.gif

I just googled this map of Queens / Manhattan.

    http://goo.gl/maps/CZSA

I would stay close to Queens Boulevard because the main subway lines are there for easy commute.

Hands down the best I have been was to Puerto Vallarta!~ You can get packages for air and hotel really cheap. It is a friendly place and the gay clubs are awesome!

The last time I used the interweb to find a "bargain" hotel in SFO, I paid $50 + tax for some place on Market that turned out to have mold all over the walls and communal baths down the halls. Sticky communal baths... And in the end both the web-site and the hotel double-charged my card, so it was over $100 a night after all.

I also had a problem in the Sunnyvale area (where I go more often) with some fleabag motel. I told the travel office "Do NOT book me in that place again." But they kept changing the name of the motel, and I ended up going back three times.

Just getting a little sour on "bargains."
