i've been volunteering for a couple years, now, and i've got to say that the people i've encountered who participate in the community are pretty nice, caring, and open. today, for the first time in my life, i volunteered at a gay community center downtown and found a LOT of exceptionally kind adults and peers and i'm excited to say that i'm pretty sure i'm going to make a lot of new friends

try out volunteering, if you haven't already, if you want to meet good people with your sexual orientation in common

    any volunteers on here? comments?

I was in the US Navy.

One of the first things I learned was what the acronym "NAVY" means:
    Never
    Again
    Volunteer
    Yourself

that sounds like great advice. i've been thinking about joining the Human Rights campaign as a way of doing some community service for a worthy cause while meeting some like minded people.

Tried that a few years ago, all they wanted was my money.

Volunteering is great. There's tons of ways to help out and it's especially rewarding to do it for the benefit of other gay men.

When I think of the "gay scene", it includes all the people I know who volunteer their time, skills and finances to do good things. I also like to pass down to other gay guys things I've learned in my life etc.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to get dates tooicon_biggrin.gif

I don't volunteer, but I benefit from the work that they do. Our hospital would grind to a halt without the work the volunteers do.

Try a local organization. Trust me--those guys have been in working in the Beltway waaaay too long, and the connection to the local queer community will make much more of a personal difference to you and your life, anyway.

As soon as I find a new job, I'll be all about volunteering. Been wanting to for a while now, but the income part is taking higher priority.

Glad to hear you've had a great experience.
