I wanted to get you guys' suggestions for songs about self acceptance. Mine would probably be Katy Perry's Firework and Leona Lewis I will be and Happy.

I know when I feel like a plastic bag, the first thing I think of is "Firework".

I Keep/ Still Here by Jill Scott. It speaks volumes about knowing your worth, regardless of how others may perceive you.

There's a song by Me'shell Ndegeocello featuring Vanessa Williams called "Open Your Eyes".

    change
put a period in your life
    and make a fresh start
exercise your mind and open up your heart
think of all the things you may want to do
and throw out your old clothes
    that make you dreary
and dress up in something new

    focus on your future
and stop turning to look back
pack your bags and board a train
    travel on a different track

don't be afraid to take the chance
    to make a different turn
just imagine all that lays ahead
    and the opportunities to learn

step out in front and pick up the pace
smooth the wrinkles in your brow
and put a smile on your face

    never be afraid to love
never be afraid to just be
just cast away the chains of doubt
have the courage to be free

don't cloud your eyes with other's lies
see only what you want to see
    just duplicate this simple truth
have the courage to be free

    Chorus:
open your eyes, you can fly
open your eyes, you can fly
    you can fly

never be afraid to love, no, no, no, no, no
never be afraid to just be
cast away the chains of doubt
have the courage to be free

    chorus

    fly away

    remember
    you can't wait for other's
    to applaud what you do
    so just congratulate yourself
    and start something new

    chorus.

Ha! I saw the thread title and was gonna chime in with Katy Perry's Firework, too. Great song that's on my ipod repeat right now. I'll check out the other song you mention.

I know what you mean. I love that song. Its like I could understand each of the words to the song.

I don't know if this is really self acceptance in the sense that you guys are all thinking, but its kinda accepting being single? Either way, I am usually more of a rock fan, but I very much enjoy this...
