What age/ where were you when you first came out to your parents? How'd they handle it? Who took it better?

I was at college over the phone when I came out to my parents. My mom alought surprised took it OK, but my dad got all upset and cried for days and said he couldn't believe "my son is going in that direction" and then proceded to ask me all the usual questions like, "how do you know" "have u tried to be with girls" "can u change your mind" lol icon_rolleyes.gif

I came out to friends at 21, and got caught in the act by my dad at age 23.
Mom took it ok but is still in denial, and prays for me every night (and I laugh at her when she tells me this icon_lol.gif ).
Dad took it horribly, and died of a heart attack about a year after that (he already had heart problems).

I had a non-coming out. At some point I was going out with men and no one really made an issue of it. "Bye mom, I'm spending the weekend with this 45 year old guy I met on the internet!"

    "Have fun!"

Came out at 14 to my mom, and 16 to my dad (my parents had divorced because my dad was gay - which I didn't find out till I was 15). Mom took it better than dad - don't ask, it's complicated.

At 16, I also came out in high school in Georgia. That went over quite well.

I was 19, my dad didn't handle it very well, and I was surprised about my mom's reaction since she doesn't like to vocalize her opinions in fear that it will push me or her sons away.

So I was really thankful when she called my dad an asshole and said he's going to grow up lonely.

    17. Mom accepted and my three sisters thought I'd love fashion, electronic music and one said do not become a drag queen cause I'd be an ugly one. As for my father....being Italian it's not accepted amongst many of our "old country" fathers hate gays so my father next accepted me after.

When your parents walk in on you with a guy's mouth on your dick, it saves you the trouble of coming out.

When your dad says, "oh, 'scuse us" and turns around and walks out, and your mom mouths, "he's cute" before walking out, I guess you could say they took it well.

I was outed by my younger brother at 20.

Sitting at the dinner table mom says "So, your borther tells me you're having trouble deciding if you're gay." I replied, " No, I know I am".

Dad and Mom both went into fits telling me I was going to hell. Dad said I was to change my name and get out. By 10am the next morning I had all of my clothes packed and was on the road back to school in PGH. I didn't have any contact with them for 2 years. Then I got an invite to come for Thanksgiving. It was like nothing happened.....lol

Over the years things have gotten much better. They ended up joining me at the Metropolitan Community Church and becoming greeters and working in the Church. Now the joke is that they have more gay friends than I do...LOL

"Hey Mum, going to Sydney with a guy friend for a week"

"Hey Mum, wanna see our pics from the trip?" "Yeah sure"

"Are you two's going at it?" "Yeah, pretty much"

It's not til I looked closely at the pictures did I realise we're basically cuddling in all the pictures lol, and it's sure as hell we arn't straight... Oh what the str8 eye can detect that the gay can't. She hated it at first, and we still don't talk about it. But she said it doesn't change who I am as a person and that i was still beautiful, so i didnt really care.

When I was 14, my dad discovered my gay porn stash on my laptop. He was fine about it. He just asked: "Should we tell your mother about this?" So my dad knew first, and he was completely fine with it. I discovered later that his best friend in high school was gay (that would explain why they were *always* fine with gay people - I remember watching 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert' when I was 5).

The only really awkward moment was when my dad walked in on me in the MIDDLE of watching a porn clip and told me he was going to sit down and watch it with me: so we could have a "mature, responsible" discussion on the content. He was curious about gay sex and wanted to know I was watching material that featured safe sex.

    Most uncomfortable 5 minutes imaginable.
