    Hey guys,

So Spring Break is definitely comin up and I know I want to do something, and meet other gay guys like me. But all the options people give me seem like stereotypical, douchebag straight guy/straight girl events.

Top of my list right now is Spring Break in Lake Havasu since its closer to me than say...New York or Miami. Check out www.swatup.com for more info on that.

Problem is, when I look at all those pictures, I see a lot of hot guys, who are probably all straight and lookin to fuck all the hot girls there.

Are there any gay friendly events that you know of?? Post em here!

Spring Break in Miami Beach (way different from Miami) or Ft Lauderdale - or anywhere in between the two - is totally fucking awesome!

Well, don't come to Fort Lauderdale for spring break. Years ago the Christian right-wingers passed laws to effectively outlaw college kids from coming here, because they disturbed the old retired farts, who wanted peace & quiet, nobody stepping on their lawn. Those laws and restrictions still exist.

Fort Lauderdale turned its back on spring break, and lost the revenue. I wouldn't give them the satisfaction. You have lots of other spring break options in Florida. But Fort Lauderdale officially doesn't want you.

To quote an article from Time magazine:

But by the end of the '80s, [Fort Lauderdale] had enough: stricter laws against public drinking were enacted and Mayor Robert Dressler went so far as to go on ABC's Good Morning America to tell students they were no longer welcome.

    Fuck, I didn't know that.
That makes me want to move back down to South Beach.
Hmmm...maybe I will in the next year or so. icon_wink.gif

Yeah, and the decision was politically popular with the old-fart, angry, stay-off-my-lawn voters down here. Fewer of them now, morphed into present day Teabaggers, but still too influential for things to be changed.

Plus as a practical matter, a lot of the smaller, and affordable old "Mom & Pop" hotels have been replaced with expensive, high-rise mega-hotels, that block the sun along the Fort Lauderdale beach. The few original ones that remain are a block or 2 from the beach, a number converted into the gay "resorts" we talk about here. So really little affordable now to attract the college spring break crowd, few having the small-scale atmosphere that encouraged pool parties and wet T-shirt contests.

But I wouldn't necessarily conclude that South Beach is the answer. It's also become rather commercial, formulaic, up-tight, plus straight. The current Gay Central is Wilton Manors, even if it isn't on the beach.

Of course that will change in time, too, no gay mecca remains forever. There is a life cycle to these things, they grow & die just like South Beach did for gays. But within my probable lifetime, if not yours, hopefully, WM will be the last gay home my partner & I will ever need to know.

From the looks of things, it seems that Hollywood (this Hollywood) is going to be the next gaycation spot...if not all of Hollywood Beach. It's very gay friendly here, and there's already a couple places that have "gay night" every Friday.

Ah I am not going this year because my stupid grad school spring break starts on Feb 28th icon_mad.gif I am so sad, I love SB!!!

But I know what you mean. I usually go to Panama City, FL and it basically is all straight people hooking up, and any gay probably wouldn't dare admit it. But I still have a damn blast nonetheless!

Yes, there will be. It just won't be as big as it used to be.
However, the party scene down here during the off-season is still bigger than most spring break spots, so it'll be a blast anyway. icon_wink.gif

I'm going to L.A. for my spring break. My sister lives in Hollywood and I haven't seen her in a year. I got tickets to go to the Price is Right, and still have more ideas to do during the day. I want to recollect the previous nights events through pictures ( and not a mug shot), and most importantly lots of debauchery!
