Why do gay bars only play female singers and serve bad beer?

I'm sure there are exceptions but I find gay bars only play female glamor singers. I like a lot of male singers and the females I like are earthy not glamorous. I love to see a sexy guy pouring his heart out with poetic music. To name a few, Howie Day, David Gray these days, and Jackson Brown or James Taylor in my youth. What is so exciting about seeing a glamor girl with attitude. If you're lucky you might see a boy band play to break up the string of glamor chicks.

And now about the beer. Can you give me something that is not mass produced? I'm lucky if they have anything on draft. There is so much fantastic beer being brewed locally but all you will ever get in a gay bar is the massed produced US and a select few massed produced foreign beers. I've asked this question once and was told that they don't get requests. I'm suppose to put in a request, please carry good local beers?

    You're in NC, that's why.
Other gay bars I've been to (like several) play kickass music and serve only the best beer.
Too bad I don't drink beer, though...only mixed drinks.

Let me qualify. I don't go to gay bars in NC only straight ones that play good music and have good beer. I'm at George's Alibi at this moment in Ms. Wilton Manners and that is what prompted me to write this. They at least have Sam Adams on draft. Not great but better than what you'd get most places.

I'm expanding my horizons by going to a gay bar. I only go to straight ones.

I haven't been there. I'd be happy to settle for good music and mediocre beer. I'm not going to find mico brewed beer in any gay establishments. It is just something I've noticed because I only go to gay bars when I'm in South Florida and they never have the music or beer I like.

The music is my favorite part of Twist...7 bars within the club, and each one plays a different style of music.
Only drawback is the upstairs bars (the best 5) don't open till 11pm.

Hrm I guess I'm lucky up here in Canada. They always have 5 or 6 beers draught. And well.. in a bar do you really wnat ot hear a poetic man crooning? That doesn't really suit the mood, though the music might be gorgeous.

The gay bars play music by females because you gay men Idolize them and make them into divas. I don't know what to say about the cheap beer.

This is so true. The beer in gay bars in Canada is much better. I discovered Belle Guelle at a gay bar in Montreal. Mais voyons doncs ca alors c'est pas mal!

I miss Montreal. I haven't been back since mon chum la-bas m'a quitte.

As a college student, Sam Adams and Yuengling are usually the best we can afford.

But you're complaining about them as if you were drinking Natty Light
    icon_eek.gif

Maybe one day my degree will get me a job where I can afford better beer.

A lot of straight bars serve only shitty beer too. It's just a matter of finding the gay bars that have good beers on tap... they do exist... somewhere. icon_biggrin.gif

Last time I checked, one couldn't get real beer (or real coffee) east of the Rockies. So I haven't gone that way for a while.

I don't know what the deal is with the crappy music. They sure play it loud though.

Dude! Asheville NC is bear city USA beating out Portland two years straight. More microbeers per cap than anywhere in the US.

There are gay bars out there that have beer on tap and play things other than the typical diva music.

Guys the bar is a business and the owner will usually listen to requests to make his customer happy. If the owner sees that enough customers are requesting something and the change will increase his profits, he will usually make the change. The owner will not have a few microbrews on tap if no one drinks them, however.

To the OP, maybe you'll like the music better at a dyke bar on acoustic guitar night.

Well I'm guessing its because most singers who make "fun" music are female. With all due respect, the music you mentioned makes me want to...turn off the radio. Just different tastes I suppose.

There some male R&B and Pop singers, but there are less of them. Its marketing. The bars want to draw people to them. I think more gay guys are drawn to that kind of music... and liquor is usually preferred over beer, so that one is pretty simple.

You're crazy. Beer is the golden nectar of the gods....you'd be crazy not to taste of it.

And no matter the status of my income - Yuengling will always be a great beer to drink.
