    FROM Huffington Post & Youtube:

A 19-year-old University of Iowa engineering defended gay marriage in a rousing testimony in front of the Iowa House of Representatives on Tuesday. Zack Wahls spoke out against a resolution which would end civil unions in Iowa by describing his own experience as the son of two lesbian partners.

"Our family really isn't so different from any other Iowa family," said Wahls. "When I am home, we go to church together, we eat dinner, we go on vacations."

Wahls emphasized the typical nature of his upbringing, as well as his own success. He is an Eagle Scout and a small business owner. He also scored in the 99th percentile on the ACT. "If I was your son, Mr. Chairman, I believe I would make you very proud," he said.

Wahls, a sixth-generation Iowan, finished his testimony on an impassioned note. "In my 19 years not once have I ever been confronted by an individual who realized independently that I was raised by a gay couple," he said. "And you know why? Because the sexual orientation of my parents has had zero effect on the content of my character."

Well all I can say is this gay couple raised one hell of a great kid ! he's really well adjusted to life, which even alone would recommend apparent success by the gay couple. He sure represents same sex couples well and I'm glad you posted this, its great to see, I'll be anxious to see how this all turns out in the Legislature.

I watched this yesterday and was very impressed. I shouldn't have read the comments people left in YouTube, however (I know better but I couldn't help myself).

i saw this guy on msnbc the other night. he was amazingly articulate. I WANT HIM TO RUN FOR OFFICE.... ANY OFFICE. those poor bastards at the meeting had no idea the can of worms they were opening up, but now that this man said it, maybe, just maybe, some of these old farts will listen. i'm so proud of some of our youth..... maybe the usa will eventually get into the 21st century.

I too am very very impressed with this young man who spoke and agree with you here that "I'm so proud of some of our youth". I'm 57 and am looking forward to my, far too often bigoted "baby boomer" age group getting out of the way for young open minded and intelligent people to get into decision making government positions. Its time for the damned old farts to go home and let the country move forward leaving the status quo behind.

An interview with Zach and his family on MSNBC. So moved by how loving he is when his moms speak.

Just take note of what party (political) brought this legislation to a vote and passed it. Defend them please.

You know they still voted to add the amendment to repeal gay marriage despite his great speech, yes?
