I love Christina Aguilera's music icon_redface.gif But I haven't seen her movie and have no desire to...maybe I'm not that gay after all...

I also love Whitney Houston, Brandy, and some of the newer Britney.

But other than that, my music tastes are very straight male - System of a Down, Kanye West, Breaking Benjamin, Radiohead, Muse, OutKast, Trey Songz, Kid Cudi, Jimmy Eat World....and I honestly prefer rock and hip hop to pop.

I can honestly say I like music from every genre.

MY straight male friends love top 40s.

I think it's more the type of person. MY friends are party people, as opposed to chilling around. They are mostly athletes, they like to go out and dance and move.

    I like lots of genres.

I believe straight guys like pop too, they just are scared to admit it because it's not seen as 'masculine' to like pop music. Go to any club night that plays cheesy pop though - they like it when they're drunk (that's all I'm sayin') icon_razz.gif

I was a bigger fan of pop music when I was in my 20s and 30s. Now I am less interested in dance clubs and pop music, and more interested in jazz, country and classical music.

I guess more gay guys prefer pop music like Britney etc as they prefer "songs about him" rather than "songs about her"

to answer the headline... NO, I just think straight guys keep their love for catchy pop tunes in the closet so to speak.
They won't admit it public, "cos dude, those songs are GAY".

I bet they'll be humming or singing out loud, fagging along to lady Gaga, when alone in the shower icon_biggrin.gif

I can't really avoid hearing the top 40 playing but they are all mostly garbage or ephemeral. There are a couple I can think are "neat" until they get overplayed.

I listen to trance, house, classic rock, alternative rock, classical mostly.

Most of the popular metal, country and hard rock you hear on the radio is equally as horrifying as the aforementioned artists.

Most of the popular music, in lyrics and in chord progressions/keys, are created to make you feel good.

Seriously I think the lyrics to most songs are:

    "Feel good,
    Feeling good.
    In the club.
    party party.
    Sex in the club
    sex in the party.
    Feeling good
    Feeling good.
    Buy me something
    we'll have a drink
and I'll have sex with you and
    we'll feel good."

I primarily listen to country music. However, there is not as widespread an audience for country as pop. So when I hear a new song/artist i like, chances are that not that many people are interested. So I don't bother to post about it. BTW Anyone else like the new song Georgia Clay by Josh Kelly. Heard it on pandora and just downloaded to my ipod. Can really relate to that song. Very cool.

Personally I think most gay people begin listening to pop music because it's what gay people are "supposed" to listen to, and it's what they play in the clubs anywhere other than the larger cities (which might offer some variety). This is my main problem with the "gay community"--I did not spend all that time and effort throwing off the narrow norms of the straight community to embrace the narrow norms of the gay community.

These are stereotypes. Stereotypes, however, have a way of being perpetuated by the dominant culture. Listen to what you like and don't worry about everyone else.

A lot of people like pop music, but you gotta remember there is a subcategory called "twink rock" which includes Gaga, Brittany Spears ect.

This is under the assumption that a love for Lady GaGa and a love for Rammstein are mutually exclusive. If you think gays ONLY like the pop divas, you haven't just haven't dug deep enough into their iPods. icon_wink.gif

My friend, have you been following the country music thread? A lot of RJers love country music! ...which was a pleasant surprise for me... I don't mind Pop music once in a while, but I prefer a much larger variety that covers various musical genres.
