Porn is bad for your libido?

There was an article in New York magazine this week explaining how regular and easy access to porn is making men less libidinous in "real life" situations. The article is about straight men and women. But I think it applies to us gays as well.

Have you guys found that this is true for you?

    I kinda agree ......
    on two fronts

It takes away the sexual "energy" icon_rolleyes.gif if you call it that
that you would use on sacking a hot guy otherwise

But to me ... and what's worse is that it sets up expectations
    making ordinary sex ........ disappointing

    Even porn isn't spontaneous
    there are takes
there is lighting ... and sound
    make up
so what guys .... and unfortunately me expect
    is unattainable

    That's what's bad about porn

I think it does take away your libido according to a friend who is single and therefore frequents the porn sites.

It's a catch 22... I don't watch much anymore because I find it boring, but I feel low libido.

I guess it's true cause a lot of the time I just jerk off so I don't feel horny any more.

I would have to think it may be a case by case thing. I know that I often frequently watch pornographic "man on man action films." At 34 years old I still have the libido of a 15 year old. I am constantly thinking about sex and find myself aroused easily in all environments. I used to find release in anonymous partners but now porn is my quick fix. I feel it is safer and healthier this way. Again though, I cannot seem to get enough.

i tend to disagree, i think it gives you ideas and fantasies to explore in bed with your significant other if partnered up or with a one nighter

I definitely do agree. I believe it takes the excitement out of being 'with' someone because it becomes very routine. Sort of like going to Disneyland, what a blast unless you live next door to it, then it's just not the same. It loses it's edge and becomes, oh hum routine.

I love porn. Does the opposite for me. Makes me horny as hell and want to go out and get fucked.

If porn is the only way you get off when you're intimate, that's a problem.

However, if both of you LOVE porn (Hell, I sell porn at my part time job & I love porn too!) then ROCK ON! I'd call it an enhancement.

I do think that different people have different responses. I don't think the easy accessiblity of porn has done gay people all that much good. It's hard to find guys who will actually date.

A bit off of the subject, but a good place to share this.
BEFORE there was Colt, Falcon & Target Studios...BEFORE there was VHS or DVD...we had this.
I came out half way through my senior year of high school, in Dec. 1964...and
this was the only "porno" available. There were a very scant number of 8mm movies available...but totally black market.
My first lover, who was 20 years older than me, had a "thing" for porno mags...and I inherited the collection. A few days ago, as I was clearing out some crap I didn't want or need, I came across my collection. Packed in FIVE liquor boxes were mags from 1964 thru 1989. Of course, as years went on, the models were hotter and full nudity was readily available. Imagine the surprise on the garbage man's face when he opened these boxes....icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif
THIS was "porno" way back when:

Supposedly, it raises your expectations...how many "average" dudes can compare to guys that are abnormally hung that spend all their time in the gym and use steroids to maximize the size of their muscles........icon_question.gif

After a while, the guy next door just won't do......Reminds me of Jack Nicholson in "Carnel Knowledge".....Need more and more..............icon_eek.gif

Seems to me a bit of a moderation thing... but wanking a few times a day everyday to porn seems to dampen my libido to the point I lose interest either in sex or even a J/O. icon_sad.gif

I have my libido cycles of "crazy mad horny fuck anything that moves" to "show me the way to the nunnery" lol

No KIDDING. Why do you think I look at it? icon_lol.gif I'm still at a point in life where anything that kills libido is a blessing.

Sounds to me like more bitter fat women rationalizing why it's somebody else's fault that they can't get laid.

I guess it could if you hold everyone to that expecation, and I think it leads people to view men and women as sex objects rather than living human beings (based on looks alone) but at the end of the day, the women in that article arent getting laid because they lack confidence and swagger. Attraction is 50% looks and 50% personality, if you dont have a personality or feel inferior, people wont sleep with you.

Also, another person touching you feels way better than jerking yourself, imo.
