My mother would like me to pick out a new gas range for her but I don't even know where to start for someone like her. She cooks daily but never to the extend I do. I lean towards Viking/ElectroLux or some high-end LGs but at 60 year grandmother doesn't need that anymore.

I know there is Kenmore and Maytag but I didn't know if anyone had a good website or suggestions to attack this animal with.

I know I need a gas, free standing range (self-cleaning of course) but I am more concerned with the brand (and personally don't want Kenmore as it is just GE with a different control panel).

But please share your thoughts on your process.

    Thanks

actually i have no freakin idea, but why not visit a consumer reporting type website, rather than a flirty, sexy, male jock site? sort of seems logical...

Do you like gas because of the high temperature and fast response of temperature control?

I'm starting to like induction technology. It's fast to heat up food. Much quicker than electric radiant and most gas stove tops. Temperature control is near instant if you don't want to have to lift the pot off the surface. With gas the large thick grates above the flame take longer to cool and heat up. Not to mention efficiency is amazing with induction. I think with gas, you use 40% of it's energy to heat up food. The rest of the energy is light and heat up around the pot. Induction is around 80-85% efficient.

One thing you can't get that gas does is roast items in the pot and you can use any type of metal pot to cook with. Maybe there are hybrids around? icon_smile.gif Good luck finding the perfect kitchen!

I did a lot of research (especially Consumer Reports) when I was going to buy new appliances.
I ended up with a Maytag range. And, I love it !
