Strength training and cardio on the same day?

During the winter months, I can only get to the gym to work out three days a week so I've been doing cardio and strength training on the same day. I do about an hour with weights and machines, take a 10 minute break and eat a protein bar, then do cardio for about an hour. I usually run on the treadmill, but I sometimes row on days I haven't worked my shoulders and back.

Am I cutting down on possible muscle gain by doing that much cardio after lifting? After the cardio, I feel normal post-workout tiredness, but not fatigue.

I can see some bulk building up little by little, so something must be working, but I wonder if there's a better way to organize my time at the gym. Any advice from guys who are trainers or who understand the best ways to coordinate cardio and strength training?

    Thanks, guys!

I think you are doing ok. If both are important to you, you can find a nice balance. Post resistance training cardio can really help recovery and it feels good. Just make sure you are getting enough food throughout the day. The fact you are eating something between weights in cardio is important too if you are trying to put on muscle. Don't want to completely deplete your body when you are working out. Your body will break down fat AND muscle for energy. You need fuel.

With all that said, it also depends on the intensity of your cardio. If you are doing a nice fat burning run or an intense conditioning run.
