Did you ever notice that most people don't start posting to a thread until at least one person has replied?

See, it's true. You'll rack up tons of views before that one person responds, then it's a floodgate. Why is that?

Because RJ keeps it in the background for a while, and no one notices it. Someone responds, and if that happens when RJ allows it to come to the top...it suddenly will appear at the top level of the page and people will read it then, generally, without having to go into all the Forum posts to see it.

Interesting observation... perhaps the first response provides the activation energy necessary to catalyze the other responses to the thread?

I refuse to post in this thread because the 2nd post has already been taken.

I've notice the HOT poster effect, where people tend to post more if the person above them is hot (no matter if the OP is) as if the topic would be that much more interesting just because a hot guy comented on it

Very, very observant of you. I'll have to tabulate that theory.

I don't think the thread exists until I've read it. Kind of like a tree/forest/sound thing.

You mean that thing where people can't see the forest for the sound? And trees travel in waves?

Wow, now THAT is deep. Too deep for a guy 3/4 of the way through a bottle of wine. Anyone?

I think that's how the Hawaiian islands got their vegetation. And a good argument for the deaf learning Braille.
