Daniels has drawn the bulk of his support from the party's fiscal policy wonks. Social conservatives have expressed skepticism toward Daniels since he said the GOP should declare a "truce" on social issues until the country's economic problems are addressed.
“[F]or him to say that those issues need to be put in the background," Santorum said Thursday, "I just, I’m stunned by it.”
And he's perfectly right, of course. To wit: the first month of the Republican-controlled Congress. The upcoming vote for the Patriot Act renewal will be a non-event...of course it's going to pass!
Mitch Daniels would make a good president, but he'll never win the primary.
