High standards are the source of so many problems, they say... yet can anyone suggest ways to actually lower it? They say we should, but they never tell us how...

I'm not sure I understand what you mean specifically. I'm guessing it's standards in looks...what you'll date, etc. Otherwise, why would anyone want to lower their standards? Less character or morals?

We're all infected with the perfection virus, I guess. Media and popular culture bombard us with images of beautiful people. I always remind myself that the pretty ones have to learn the same people skills as the rest of us. Some are going to get them, some aren't, just like everyone else.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to be physically attracted to a person you would date. That's pretty much where it starts. But if good interpersonal skills are missing, pretty gets boring real fast.

That's what alcohol is for. Standards usually start dropping just before closing time.

Aren't standards relative like anything else in life?

Well, one could look in the mirror each day and say 'I'm ugly, I'm awful, I deserve nothing good in life, even Jabba the Hut is too sexy for me'.

Heck, when someone's self-worth is that low, they'll take anyone icon_wink.gif

Nothing can make you forget your standards better than getting wasted at a bar...that's when we make those awful 3 am choices...

Who is "they" and why are you listening to them? Lowering standard is just a recipe for settling for someone and then you'll just be unhappy down the long road.

Maybe because they want to have sex or a relationship... my favorite fuck buddy is a major narcissist who owes me money. Why do I still do it with him? Because I have no other options... unless I happen to enjoy the available [ethical] guys who are not as good in bed, handsome, masculine, seductive and classical singers to boot. Where's the magical button I should press to make it happen?

I'm having a drink in the meantime to see if it helps. icon_cool.gif

Well, the first thing you do is work on getting over being a snob. I think that should keep you busy for a while. ... No problem. Glad to help.
