I am going to be in Orlando in March for two weeks. Are there any gay friendly gyms? What are some good cafes and bars. As for bars I am looking for levi/t-shirts or leather.

Popular gay bars include Parliament House and Pulse. I've heard people enjoy Hamburger Mary's (a restaurant/show) that has drag queens and is open early enough for lunch. I go to Golds Gym, but wouldn't call the place gay though.

FYI: P-House is very smoky, so if you don't smoke and mind the stench/health hazard, you may want to steer clear.

Pulse seems to be changing these days - the music and crowd are trending straighter and more "urban" (not my word - one of the bartenders'). There are still mostly male go-go dancers but there seem to be a LOT more straight girls there than I've ever seen before. When leaving there last month, I asked our cab driver what the deal was and he said "oh, you mean where did all the white gay guys go? They're at the new club."

So, I did some research, and apparently many of the white gay men have indeed flocked to Mister Sister's, a new club on Semoran Blvd. I'm going to be checking it out next week so I can post more info then. icon_biggrin.gif Oh, and apparently it's smoke-free indoors, which means it's going to have to suck pretty hard for me not to want to defect there for my Orlando clubbing needs, because both P-House and Pulse allow smoking indoors. icon_razz.gif

I'm of no use to you regarding gyms but if you want something really fun and random, check out SkyVenture indoor skydiving. It's actually a great workout - after a good session in the wind tunnel, my arms are sore!

Since you'll be there for two weeks, I'd suggest taking a day or two to check out Tampa - just about 1.5 hours to the west of Orlando. You might like the Eagle in Ybor City. As far as gay friendly eating establishments, maybe Hamburger Mary's in Ybor City or The Wine Exchange in Hyde Park.

    Have fun visiting Florida! icon_smile.gif

Orlando here! Orlando here!! Let me help you out with the cafes and bars....

The best leather bar would be the one at the Parliament House on North Orange Blossom Trail. I will say this, the P-House is not the most pleasing place to the eye as it needs a major overhaul and a renovation like you wouldn't believe. Still, it is one of the premier bars in town

    http://www.parliamenthouse.com/

There are also some good gay friendly places to eat in town. One of my favorites is Sip on Virginia Avenue, just north of downtown. The food is really very good there and if you want to do something really offbeat, the Karaoke is lots of fun. DJ Di is a RIOT and one of the sweetest, kindest souls you will ever meet.

    http://sip-orlando.com/index.html

    Also very gay friendly:

    http://www.breakfastcluboforlando.com/

Brian's Restaurant on the corner of Orange Avenue and Virginia across from Lake Ivanhoe (near Sip) is also gay friendly and serves a good breakfast.

If you have any particular Orlando questions, would you e-mail me? I'll help you out.

Mr. Tampa Chamber of Commerce speaks! And he is spot on as well. The Tampa area is awesome and the vast majority of the restaurants in Tampa/St. Petersburg are over-the-top fantastic!

Yeah, there are some good ones. If you are into steak, you really should give Bern's Steakhouse a try. Personally, I think it is just a tad overrated but it is still really good and the service is great. The original Columbia Restaurant is in Ybor City and is good if you like Cuban food.

I just went to Mr. Sisters for the first time on Friday and will definitely be going back again! However, I will be drinking a bit less...these guys definitely do NOT underpour, which they did at Pulse. Drinks are pricier, but you're definitely getting more of your money's worth.

For my tastes, there was lots more eye-candy than at Pulse or especially P-House. Dance floor could be roomier but it was adequate, especially given that you could in theory dance elsewhere in the club. It got crazy crowded around peak times (12-2ish), so I'm hoping to get there on the early side on Saturday to see if I can have more room to dance then. icon_smile.gif

DJ'ing ranged from excellent to good. I didn't eat so I can't comment on the food.

The no-smoking indoors is definitely the best part. Makes navigating around outside a bit hard, as it's essentially wall-to-wall smokers, but I'll take that any night over having to strip at the door when I get home to segregate the ashtray-smelling clothes from the others!

The initial reviews for Mr. Sisters have been very good. And Hamburger Mary's in Orlando (in Church Street Station or what is left of it!) is excellent and you must go for Gay Bingo. You'll laugh your ass off!!

    Hi All,

I am in Orlando for the next few days. Looking to go out and checkout the scene whilst here. I hear that Pulse is good but having read this thread is Mr Sisters still the better place to go?

Into house music and nice background scenery (if you get my meening).

    Any help greatly appreciated!

Metro Muscle is actually closed as of a few weeks ago. Out of business.

The LA Fitness on Colonial is very gay.
I go to the24 Hour Fitness just south of downtown in the SoDo complex off of Orange Ave. There are quite a few gay members there, not really gay friendly or not gay friendly, but a good portion od the clientele is gay. It's not very cruisy though. A 24 Hour pass there is 10$, meaning if you come in at say 8PM, you can come back the next day with your receipt before 8PM and get in again for free.

The Golds Gym in Dr. Phillips is also not particularly gay or not, it has it's share of gay clientele (which I suppose any gym will have. We don't have a 'gay gym' here in Orlando, unless you want the bathhouse which has a gym, Club Orlando). The Golds in DR. Phillips is one of the best in the country sonif you ate into working out, it is a must do at least once. It even has a movie theater cardio room. I'm not sure now, but the day pass used to be 20$.

As far as clubs, Parliament, more commonly called P House here, is a jack of all trades. It has something to offer just about anyone, and yes, you will see everything possible there. It's a hotel connected to a club complex. It has it's own theater with tiered seating for the drag shows, a piano bar, pool bar, bear bar, shops, main dance floor, dancers, and a huge patio with an outside bar. don't be surprised to see a hotel room with christmas lights I the wide open windows with a sling set up in the room, lol. Patrons play what's called 'Balcony Bingo'...standing in the courtyard and watching guys wander the floor levels in an attempt to guess which room they'll pick to venture into before they actually do so. Usually free on Friday nights before 11, then 6$ thereafter, 8$ on Saturday nights and slays open and free Sunday nights.

Pulse is more a 'younger' crowd (I've suggested barbie dolls and legos be strewn about the floor), the interior was redone about a year or so ago, it looks very nice inside, but it's not my cup of tea.

Mr. Sisters is a relatively new club, on Colonial Ave/SR 50 almost to Semoran blvd. It's had some legal problems recently, from what I understand it's future is up in the air. It has a lot to offer in the way of atmosphere, dancers are hot. It also has a huge deck overlooking the lake behind it. There are drag shows on the deck on Saturday nights. Parking is horrible and valeting costs 5-10$. Most people park at the closed Rooms-2-Go just up the street and walk over. I know on sat nights it's free until 11, 5$ after that.

    Msmaller local haunts include:

Sip- great ambiance and specialty drinks. Closes earlier.

Savoy, and it's attached smoke free bar Tattoo, are also a local favorite, pool tables, dancers, beware it's VERY smoky except for the Tattoo side.

Paradise- on Mills Ave, smaller neighborhood bar with pool tables, more frequented by an older local crowd.

The Mills 50 district and Thornton Park are the gayer neighborhoods.

As far as restaurants go, the Funky Monkey properties are very gay friendly, they include Funky Monkey Wine Bar, Banana's American diner, Prickly Pear, Nick's Italian Kitchen, and The Vault wine store.
Downtown there is Hamburger Mary's on church St.
in the Thornton Park downtown there is Wildside BBQ, Grafitti Junction, Anthony's Pizza, Hue, Shari sush, Dexter's of Thornton Park...

That's about all i can think of right now...if I think of anything else, I'll add it later...

24 Hour Fitness. Although not entirely gay but it's very friendly. And yes, we have a fair amount of gay members.

24 Hour passes are $20 if you are by yourself and $10 if you are with a member. You need to purchase these before 10PM at the front desk.

If you go to http://www.24hourfitness.com/non_member_home.html and print a 3-day pass, you still need to see a sales counselor before 10PM in order to activate the pass.

Thanks for the info OrlFLMuscle - very useful.

So far as gyms go, I am currently using Golds Gym Turkey Lake and have also checked out St Clouds. Not knowing anything about whats what here in Orlando, I definetly get the impression there is quite a few gay members going to Turkey Lake. Turkey Lake seems a bit more posey than St Cloud. Both have serious body builder types working out there.
I am not into one time pleasures myself, but apparently the mens changing room is a bit cruisy.

For visitors, St Cloud at the time of writing this was $35 for two weeks plus tax and Turkey Lake was $45 for one week plus tax.

P House would not be my cup of tea. It looks like a sex club, rather than somewhere you just want to have a good time, meet some people and dance. I guess it depends what you are up for. :0)

    NUDE BEACH

Canaveral National Seashore, Titusville - just north of Cape Canaveral

    - Apollo Beach (north end) nudity is legal but there is only one very small parking lot that fills up immediately.
    - Playalinda Beach (south end) nudity is "illegal" but totally tolerated, and there is lots of parking. Drive to the last lot, walk over the boardwalk and head north.

Bring water and sunscreen, there are no amenities.

    See you there!

Yes, the Golds on Turkey Lake in Dr. Phillips is definitely probably the best Golds in Orlando, and yeah it can be a bit cruisy. There is another golds in north Orlando in Altamonte Springs also. that is, however, quite far from where you're staying, I'd guess.

As far as P House goes, its is definitely NOT a sex club, that would be Club Orlando, but PHouse is definitely not everyone's cup of tea. If you want the widest range of tastes and a cross section of Orlando PHouse is it, followed by Mr. sisters. They've done a lot to 'clean' up phouse in the part few years, it's not nearly as promiscuous as it used to be, it's just not been remodeled, so it looks tragic. It is one of the oldest continually operating gay clubs in the southeast though, if I remember correctly.

I did forget to mention Revolution on Bumby Ave. It's big on Thursday nights for college night. it's usually 5$ unless you have a student ID, then it's free until 11??

Ok, I'm off to the gym actually right now...ttfn

P House does not sound as bad as maybe it looks then.

I went to Revolution on Sunday just gone, got to 12:20am and I think there was only about 5 people in there (excluding staff) and considering the place closes at 2:30am, I left. Looks like it might be a good place to go if only there was more people. Not sure if it had anything to do with it being RnB night...

I also went to Sun on the Beach on previous Thursday. Quite a large venue but was not very full. Some interesting go go dancers and drag queens (apparently called devas). Music was good and did have a bit of atmosphere. Seems like the after party continues in Dennys across the road.

Just got back from Turkey Lake myself, seems a very nice gym. Dont have time to checkout Altamonte Springs unfortunately, but might check it out next time im here.

Yeah, Rev is hit or miss, Sunday night are always weird, depending on the weekend. Probably good idea to google the clubs before you go out, find their websites or Facebook pages and see what specialty night they are having, I can promise you that anything Monday through Thursday (except for Rev's college night) is going to be pretty poorly attended. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights are most popular for going out.

Oh no - very sorry to hear that about Mr. Sisters, as it's the only place I'll go since it opened due to the smoke-free interior! icon_sad.gif

To Musukcle - you could also park across the highway - that's what we do when we go. Just be careful dashing back across while tipsy while your DD laughs. icon_exclaim.gif

Pulse is a young-ish crowd but I found that they were attracting a more and more "urban" crowd and a lot more straight girls, at least a year and a half or so ago.

I don't know much about Revolution but it sounds cool and I plan on checking it out during Pride.
