Valentines Day: DATELESS... or DATED... wait, does that make sense

Okay, so it is that time of the year again. You know when all retail stores are painted in pink and red with heart hanging everywhere. It is just disgusting. I was at the grocery store and there were rows of candies and chocolate in heart shaped boxes. It made me think “Why the hell would you want to give someone you want to have sex with excess calories? Wouldn’t that just make them gain weight?”

Anyways, I haven’t been dateless for Valentines Day for the past 3 years since I was in a relationship. I do remember the years when I was single. Those were the years when I had to go through being asked “What are you doing for Valentines Day?” by coworkers, friends, and family during the week before the 14th. To which I would respond defensively with “NOTHING! Fuck you!” Well, maybe not exactly in those terms but somewhere along those lines. This year it happening again since I am single and see no prospect of getting a date. I am just going to pick up a bag of pink, red and white M&Ms after work that day and go home to cry while shoveling the M&Ms in my mouth and contemplate ending it all OR just go home, have dinner and then go to bed. I will probably do the latter but its fun to pretend to be dramatic. Actually, might be with a bunch of single coworkers.

Although it could be fun to have a real date. I know I am not the only one... or am I?

What do you guys have planned if you don't have someone? Are you trying to find date? Does it even matter? Do woodchucks really chuck wood?

I don't celebrate Valentine's Day. It's nothing but a fake ass holiday created by the greeting card corporation Hallmark in order to boost sales.

I am kind of in the same boat! This is my 3rd year without a Valentine's Day date. However, I don't really care lol. I always find entertaining things to do with my single friends. This year Detroit is having a Winter Blast and a pub crawl! It's ok to enjoy your own company on that special day!

Like always, I'll be all alone on "Singles Awareness Day" so I'll probably get a 12pack of beer and try to enjoy the night.

I have honestly almost never done anything dating-wise for valentines day. Only twice I think and with girls cause it was high school and yeah, my closet was comfy.

It doesn't really bother me though. Anyways, this year I have class from 7:15-9:45 and I have to give a presentation so I wouldn't be able to do much even if I wanted to.

But I am hoping sometime in the near future I will have a valentines date that I actually like icon_biggrin.gif

Even when I was a little kid valentines day was always a big deal for me. I would save up money from my allowances to be able to afford to buy candy for the other kids at school and to make sure I had enough money to buy my mom a present for valentines day. Of course I had to dress really well that day and maybe my mom would buy me a nice new shirt to wear to school. I don't know if this still happens today but at our school even the boys would exchange valentines day cards with each other.

I can get romantic about valentines day when I'm in a relationship. It's almost an excuse to show the other guy how important he is to you. If I'm not in a relationship, it's not that big of a deal to pretty much skip it and like other guys have suggested, go out with a few single friends and make fun of all the straight couples at the restaurant or bar.

Actually, no, the holiday existed before Hallmark.

I've never had a Valentines day date in my entire life. Sadly, I didn't even have one when I had a boyfriend.

So I do what I always do: I mark the day, alone, with all the bitchiness and venom I can muster towards all who promote and celebrate it. It's like I purge myself of all my festering wounds on that day. That's what "Valentine's" means to me.

    The. End.

Hey avadakedavra, A friend said to people who asked that, "The world's wide and anything's possible." and I went with this, all those years ago. Smart guy.

you must've been the cutest kid ever.

I remember giving out cards and candies to all my classmates as well. I would go with my mom to pick up the coolest card set. Then you have to tear them a part and put them into these little cheap envelopes and label them all. I would then goto class and everyone had like a little box and teacher gave us time to walk around the classroom and exchange cards. Those were good times.

I'm not going to try to find a date. To me Valentines Day only comes into play if I'm seeing someone, not if it's a first date, let alone one I arranged just to have a date on V-day. Besides, what I remember about it from my four-year relationship is that the restaurants were either booked up or backed up because of it.

That said, if I were in New York...

If I'm in the mood, I might try and hook up online that night. I can picture us jokingly wishing each other Happy Valentines Day as he's leaving.

    Good question about the woodchucks.
