Apple refreshes their products every year. Just get one now. The next generation Macbooks won't have any major changes. Maybe a slight bump in the CPU speed, but nothing to regret over if you buy one now.

a new macbook pro update is imminent. DO NOT BUY right now. the new machine will have Intel's Sandy Bridge chipset in it... all Wintel and Mac laptops that planned to use that chipset are rumored to be on hold right now until Intel fixes a flaw in the chipset. apparently Intel has 'recalled' the chips and so MacBook Pros are delayed while the problem is fixed. rumors of a refresh as early as tomorrow (feb. 9) are all over the net, but it may be a bit longer than that.... but not too much longer... so wait.

I'd wait. I bought my Macbook in 09 and three weeks later the new ones came out with the price dropping by about 100$.

Plus with Intel's new line, you're more than likely going to get USB3.0, which is pretty damn fast, and maybe an SSD like their Air's

you got me. i doubt there's a correlation between 'in-house' development names and performance :-)

Check this link - they track all Apple product releases for timing:

    http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/

They say to wait. They do pretty good market analysis on product timing so I tend to look at it before buying unless I need something immediately.

yeah... they're very secretive about their product updates..
What rightasrain said is basically what everyone is expecting- along with a GPU update--- they're also rumors going around of a design change and the removal of the superdrive- (think macbook air) thiner- lighter- etc- etc-

    Wait

the new macbook pro (13 inch model) sucks BALLS! Intel graphics..... who cares if it has a icore3 and 5, the previous gen has a nvidia 320m which smokes the integrated graphics bullshit. If you do anything remotely creative, you ll want the older core 2 duo. I got that instead, intel can shove their integrated crap in their anuses

The 320m is also an integrated GPU and it only out preforms the Intel HD GPU by a few FPS- -which might not seem like a big deal- but in the world of gaming.....

I actually don't feel like going through the trouble of finding a link that would support your comment-- I've read several articles/forum posts and they all mention only a slight difference when it comes to gaming-

that is quite wrong, i play most games ( not gta4) on full res, full fsaa, max settings with no lag. Example : HL-2, on a 42" tv in 1080 with everything maxed out. Intel HD 3000 graphics CAN T do that.

Also, go on youtube and check out framerates for yourself

    13" 2010 mbp , 2.6, 320m 8 gb ram, 100gb ssd.

Anyone looking to do anything remotely graphics intensive would be a damn fool to get an i3 or i5. Those are crazy solid CPU's, but nothing is ever going to beat a separate GPU with it's own stock of memory and heatsink.

Also, the 320m? pretty outdated GPU. I'm playing around with a Clevo equiped with SLI'd 485M's right now. With clocks set around 660MHz we're pushing 30k using 3DMark Vantage.

The 320m was outdated when it was released. icon_razz.gif

...but buying gaming laptops is insane- you could build a better desktop for half the price and won't have to worry about breaking the bank again in two years.

With all that has been said... I am still going to buy a 320m because of the few FPS you'd gain-
