After months and months of comparing tablets, reading reviews, watching hands-on videos, and seeing the product progress through three firmware updates, I have broken down and bought the new 7" Archos 70 Internet Tablet. Anyone else get one? It should arrive in a week to 10 days.

I don't have a tablet, but I love their products...my first was a DVR/media 30GB media player. I digitized all my VHS tapes with that thing and it made many a long journey bearable. And I just bought a more ipod sized media player of theirs. They design their products really well, imo...for example, I can actually transfer files between my players without a cptr. Anyway, their products kick-ass on crapple shit. Enjoy!

I'm pretty excited about the Motorola Xoom tablet. But the price is kinda steep right now.

I played with the new color Nook and thought it was too heavy, plus it has a resistive touch-screen I believe. I don't want to be tied to one type of ereader, I'm sure it's hard to get Kindle books on a Nook.

It's not an iPad.

There's a big world outside of apple... this is coming from someone that owns an apple laptop.

where did rightasrain say 'it's not an ipad'?... my only post above in this thread said 'LOL... good luck'. don't fabricate posts to suit your own needs. it makes you look stupid.

and that video has become ultra tedious.

I read between the lines and don't care if altering posts to reveal their real meaning/intention makes me look 'stupid.'
All of your post about electronics give off the same vibe- "Apple rocks and everything else sucks-" (video)
Again- I own Apple electronics and I am willing to admit that they are a p.o.s. with regards to the components they use for the price that you pay- -but the company is great- which is why I buy their products-----------------------------------

I've got it to play Flash videos like on CNN, plus Youtube videos (including embedded videos), plays a ton of video codecs, and have loaded lots of apps from Google Marketplace. You can even hook it to TV with hdmi out. Not bad for $274.

I'm typing this entire post using the voice recognition capabilities of my new tablet. Pretty cool. I'm surprised at how good it gets it typing. It's part of googles beta speak now technology. Sure saves typing on a small keyboard.

Glad to hear you're enjoying your Archos tablet. I've been considering getting one of the Android tablets, but want to wait until the Honeycomb devices are actually available and at that, I just want a Wi-Fi only tab so I can tether it to my Samsung Captivate.

Ipad is too big, Too heavy, doesn't play flash, Doesn't play a lot of video codecs, Doesn't have as good speakers, and costs too much. Oh and no sd storage slot, and too big for a comfortable ereader.

I am a huge mac fan. (macbook pro, Iphone 4, all previous versions of the iphone, mac person for over 15 years) this tablet is much better than the ipad. Well at least for any use I would use it for.

Because they're not the same thing and Apple didn't invent the tablet?

I'm sorry but the iPad has been in the market for almost one year. Yes the Archos 70 seems like a great tablet for the price but with a screen half the size of an iPad it stands in a point where it's just too big to be a cellphone and too small to be a netbook/laptop. Considering the fact that tablets rely on screen keyboard, screen size matters. Also bigger screens enable developers to create software specifically for a tablet rather than just reusing the same apps already designed for smartphones.

Back to my first point, the ipad is old news and with the iPad 2 coming up in a few months, I think u should have waited a bit. Android tablets are trying to catch up with Apple's iPad and it's just a bit too soon to fall for the first options they're putting out there, but hey it wasn't that expensive to begin with so whatever. Enjoy ur new toy, i bet it'll keep u entertained for a while.

I bought the Archos mostly for its wide video codec support (I'm a filmmaker), music, and web browsing with flash.

Oh, who am I kidding, I'm going to play games with it in bed too.

First, the nook color Capacitive screen. Second, once rooted, you can install Kindle from the android market place. Also, Archos has a horrible reputation for not supporting/updating its software/firmware for its products.

Archos has done four firmware updates for this in three months. The Archos 70 and 101 are capacitive screen, and no need to root (which would void warranty on a product), just download and install Google Market apk. Really a nice product.
