I guess the redeeming factor for Republicans is that it wasn't gay this time. Another home run for family values. icon_rolleyes.gif

People are fallible. I hope we can progress to the point where Berlusconi's exploits are commonplace in politics.
A lot of Republicans just breathed a sigh of relief: "At least he's not gay." icon_lol.gif

Haven't people learned that this sort of thing has a way of coming back and biting you in the ass? I love when the chickens come home to roost regardless of one's political affiliation.

Not only is he not gay, he's also about the most attractive of the offenders to far. At least i can imagine someone besides his wife wanting to hook up with him.

He claimed in the ad that he was 39yo. Let this be a lesson to all of you all here on RJ who are lying about your age.

Actually I'm kinda surprised he resigned so quickly, for something that isn't terribly awful. Stupid, trashy, dishonest and deceitful, yes, but SOP for Republicans, nothing to look at here. They rarely give up so easily in these sex scandals, and soon start the begging for forgiveness from wife & Jesus, and whining that everybody else does it, too. So I'm thinking a choice of:

    1. There was more to it behind the scenes, and he wanted to limit the damage, that he knew would ruin his reputation even worse than this.

    2. His wife threatened to cut his balls off if he remained in the public eye and this story continued in the news, to shame the family.

    3. A combination of 1 and 2.

    I'm leaning to # 3.

Yeah, I'd believe he's in his 30s. He deserves to resign from Congress over that lie alone. icon_razz.gif

Never miss an opportunity to take a cheap shot. Posting doesn't cost anything, so why not? At least he resigned quickly. A bit of a contrast to the Democrat who was caught with $90,000 in the freezer, completely denied wrongdoing till the day he was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Anytime, any politician (or anyone else for that matter) makes it a point to tell you what a "christian" he or she is, then proceeds to point out the sin of some particular "non christian" activity that he or she is against. There's a high probability that they themselves are guilty of that very issue they purport to be vehemently against. Look for that issue to be their guilty pleasure !!! LOL !!! I guess its always true, that it take one to know one !!!!

He deserves to loose his seat on stupidity alone. I don't give a rat's ass is someone runs an ad on CL, but he lied up one side and down the other, and was stupid enough to think it wouldn't get out and go viral!

Do politicians have to fail some sort of intelligence test before they're allowed to run for office?

As for his resigning quickly, see my post above. I knew we'd hear that same old song & dance from you Republicans here: some Democrats were dishonest, too, so all Republicans get a pass.

No, for voters it's often like having to play the odds. Which politician is more likely to be honest, and which dishonest? Will it be the Republican or the Democrat? No absolute guarantees either way, but the odds-on favorites are always the Republicans for dishonesty & hypocrisy. Post all the names of Dems you like, the Repubs will outnumber them.

And what irritates gays most is that these Republicans are frequently caught violating the very same morals and family values that they're trying to hang us with. It's understandable that humans will have failings, but these Republicans are doing it twice over: permitting themselves, while persecuting us, over the very same things.

I hope you understand how ridiculous your statement is. Nobody gets a pass. And every time a Republican gets his hand caught in the cookie jar, it automatically has to be about gay issues? Always, always the gay aspect. Do you also find a gay aspect to the weather forecast? Did he actually make statements about family values in the past? If so, then he is a hypocrite. Pretty mild compared to the recent ethics violations and criminal violations of recent history where the Democrats were very well represented.

That would be Jefferson in Louisiana... What a hoot that one was!

Too bad this guy in NY resigned... he should take note of how Charlie Rangel has hung on despite having committed massive personal tax fraud, abuse of office.....

Oh, has Charlie Rangel been convicted of massive personal tax fraud ?
    News to me.
    News to Charlie.
News to everyone but you, fool.

Please wrote what I wrote. I might in turn say of you, are you always in favor of the anti-gay aspect?

And what irritates gays most is that these Republicans are frequently [my emphasis] caught violating the very same morals and family values that they're trying to hang us with. It's understandable that humans will have failings, but these Republicans are doing it twice over: permitting themselves, while persecuting us, over the very same things.

But as I said above, which you deny, that pointing the finger at Dems exonerates Republicans, even if not accurate in your claim:

"Pretty mild compared to the recent ethics violations and criminal violations of recent history where the Democrats were very well represented."

When you get caught, point the finger at somebody else. And hope everybody forgets how often it happens with Republicans. And how hypocritical & cynical their offenses are. Those who are holier than thou should fall harder than thou.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0211/49202.htmlLee’s sudden departure - the scandal was only four hours old, just beginning by congressional standards - is the latest example where lawmakers bail out even before the media and political firestorm even really begin.

Former Rep. Eric Massa (D), another ex-lawmaker from upstate New York, resigned from office in March 2010 just days after POLITICO revealed he was under investigation for allegedly harassing male staffers.

And ex-Rep. Mark Souder (R-Ind.) quickly stepped aside in May after it was revealed he had an extramarital affair with a staffer. Boehner convinced Souder to depart the House quickly.

Lee, sources say, was one of several junior GOP lawmakers that Boehner allegedly warned to “knock it off” in partying with female lobbyists last year.

More examples of FOX "Fair & Balanced" reporting? Hell, it's not even true! And we had another thread with all the screwed-up FOX mistakes (or were they, or deliberate?) in their news reporting.

A highpoint of liberal thought. Obsession with fox news.

Back on topic. I dont think his personal life is relevant past the theoretical possibility of being blackmailed or leaking classified information given his compromising position.

Im not sure of his politics on so called "family values". As a libertarian, i don't think government should be concerned with such things anyway.

Its better he stepped down. His district deserves an representative not a sex scandal..
