If you don't see this as a legitimate concern, you're the idiot. The history of revolution is far from positive. The US is an exception rather than the rule. Look at the dictatorships post French Revolution among other countless examples. Personally, I'm far more optimistic. Even if the Brotherhood is more organized (which it is), this revolution and those like it and the use of social media technologies sets a precedent. Fundamentalists require silence from their opposition because ideas inspire and have power.

Will the bloodshed end? On that point I'm far less optimistic.

Yet if some country... or closer to home, we saw a significant uptick in Christians/NOMmers or kooks like that Rep. from Georgia winning gubernatorial, senate, congressional and statehouse seats, many folks here would be screaming about the theocratic revolution that would undo the Republic.

Granted, radical Islamic groups do have their vision of a global Islamic gov't under one Caliph according to Shariah law. I'd say there is more of a danger of these groups realizing their deadly fantasy than there is of a theocratic government taking over the USA.

It is after all their perfect right to practice any religion they so desire, is it not ?

The US and Isreal have stuck their nose in the business of many a country in the middle east, WE HAVE BROUGHT THIS RIFT BETWEEN EAST AND WEST ON OURSELVES THROUGH INTERFERENCE. Frankly if we get out of their business, they will have no interest in ours !!!! They, the Islamists are saying basicly YOUR BUSINESS ENDS WHERE MY NOSE BEGINS, (an old saying that fits here)

I dare say that this revolution going on in Egypt is not part of some grand Islamic conspiracy, this belongs to the people, not the fundamentalists. I'd bet you that its far less a conspiracy in Egypt from the fundamentalist Islamists, than it has been one in the past, from the US NEO CONS trying to manipulate events from IRAN, and throughout the whole area, to manipulate for our interests, these interferences are what brought about our worries over there and with terrorism. our NEO CONS under both repub and Dem administrations have brought us these troubles.

BECK IS WAY OFF BASE ON THIS ONE !!!! He puts the problem on everyone else but here at home where the NEO CONS have everything to do with islamic hate for the west. End that problem/interference and the problem ends. Beck eludes that Obama is part of this Islamic sceem to take over the world, HOW GOD DAMN LAUGHABLE and DANGEROUS, listen to his rhetoric, watch him at his 'black board', he intones this shit time and again.

A positive outcome from a revolution does happen from time to time though. One that comes to mind off the top of my head is the Orange Revolution in Ukraine about six years ago. It was largely non-violent and led to the will of the people winning the day.

I think, given the size and scope of the unrest--Cairo's greater metropolitan area consists of over 19 million people--the loss of life and damage to property has been kept to a remarkable minimum. Based on what we've seen so far, I don't think we need to be overly concerned with massive bloodshed there (granted in these situations it should always be a concern).

I do not know what Beck has said on the matter but I have heard certain news agencies express concern and draw parallels of Egypt's current situation to that of Iran circa 1979. I think that's a poor analogy. There is no radical religious organization waiting in the wings to turn Egypt into a theocracy, the people are not clamoring for that. The Brotherhood seems to scare some people, but they have consistently taken a non-violent stance, they condemned the 9/11 attacks and neither the CIA, FBI, DOD, nor the State Dept. considers them a threat. Will they tow the US line the way Mubarak did? Probably not, but that doesn't necessarily make them a threat or dangerous.

I think a better comparison would be Russia circa 1917 (February--not October). There is a desire and an expectation by Egyptians that their efforts will lead to a more open, democratic process. Hopefully the parallel will end there, before Egypt slips into its own October [Bolshevik] Revolution.

It may not turn out to be the best thing for the US, Mubarak was a very strong ally after all, but I see reason for optimism for the Egyptian people.

I'm hoping that the Egyptians, as an aggregate... embrace a moderate path along the lines of the Turkish Kemalists or otherwise let secularist attitudes prevail.

The Arab experience is not really easily paralleled to the founding of our Republic, with its deep basis in the Enlightenment Age thinkers.

Unfortunately, their experience is drawn more from tribal and regional despots and a much stronger influence by fundamentalist religionists than Christians could ever dream of having over our government.

    For TropicalMark:

I'd oppose any group that sought to deprive citizens of their liberties. Even ones traveling under a thin cloak of "Christianity".

I took the time to listen to Beck this evening, and he was espousing more of his fear mongering/predictions of Islamic jihad, the lefts involvement and Sheria Law taking over. He ended his show, with, Good night America, we just want to keep you informed of what is coming !!! OH MY F'N GOD !!! We have a prophet on your hands!!!!! , kinda like those predicting the end in 2000 and how they were to store food for the "end times", next we have those who believe 2012 will be the end of time.

Hell, who knows when Becks end times will happen, he may have to wait until after 2012 end time events come and go and we all pinch ourselves and find that we are still here and alive. then look out world, Becks end times takeover by the Islamists and the left, with our being under Sheria law will supposedly be upon us. BE VERY VERY AFRAID !!!! LOL !!!! This ex drunk must want a following awfully badly, wonder what his followers will do when life goes on and no Islamist takeover comes to pass ? It will be interesting.
