She's a total screamer herself. You can tell how he's struggling to rein in his own inner femme.

Before we get attacking this guy, let's keep in mind there's a surprising number of guys JUST LIKE HIM on this website!

Lots of gay guys out there who would be happy to see "queens" and "trannys" oppressed if it meant they got their rights...even though it was those "queens" and "trannys" who were instrumental in forcing the gay rights we all enjoy at this point!

How is this guy any different than the dozen or so guys on here who profess a true loathing towards certain types of gay guys?

As they say: "don't shit where you eat."

This guy fits the bill of a new stereotype of gay men -- the self-hating gay, should we call it? He's Republican, either by his parents raising him that way, or out of a choice to rebel against the normal gay stereotype. It's counterculture, but in the opposite direction as normally described in sociology class. This man (and this stereotype) looks for the reasons to separate himself from the group -- not for the common traits he shares. He has an internalized homophobia that he terrorizes himself with silently, which overflows and comes out as criticisms towards the traits he sees in others that he actually secretly sees in himself.

I tend to be far more conservative/Republican friendly than most of the gays my age that I know, but I think this guy made a very selfish comment meant to elevate himself, rather than to make a statement on gay men. He totally contradicts himself in this statement:

Gay people frustrate me, the stereotypical gay people, it frustrates me...someone who puts on a total act. I understand that some guys are feminine, which is fine. But some guys, at some point, are normal, straight-acting, whatever and the next minute they're jumping up and down. It just frustrates me. The whole conservative thing is just be yourself, be an individual and just don't be someone you're not. If someone does or does not accept you, that's fine but don't change who you are to look different to others.

I meet flaming Heterosexual men all the time. Ignorant people just assume that their gay. Heterosexual men do not have a monopoly on what it is to be a man. Anyway his opinion is his opinion let's not let this blow up. However, I do admit I want to cut his tongue off for using the term "straight acting"

Yes, he's contradicting himself in one respect, but in another (and rather chilling) aspect he's stating you must choose your camp. You are feminine or masculine and are not to exhibit traits of both, no matter how natural that may be to you.

Being Conservative is about being yourself? WTF? Why can't feminine men be more like themselves and act less feminine? WTF? I want Sarah Palin to run because she reminds me of my mother and we don't have many women out there like that? WTF?

    What is he on?

This just in: Sky is blue. I'm sure many other people felt the same way in that room. The only thing interesting is this idiot at least had the guts (inebriation?) to say it out loud. It's nice to see the idea that conservatives are willing to play nice with gays, but until they get out of bed with the religious fascists in our own country, this is all just a dog and pony show.

I think it's a part of the coming out process. It's part of the journey. Understanding the infinite diversity of human behavior; breaking out of the boxes; really being yourself is a long process.

Many people, I think, go through intermediate stages whereby they concede that they are not inside the mainstream, but insist that their new "normal" is somehow still ok.

There's a lot of wordplay going on here. Who's being themselves and who's really acting? "Straight-acting" people or effeminate men? It's so interesting that he says "The whole conservative thing is just be yourself, be an individual and just don't be someone you're not.". So who is being themselves? Perhaps both and neither.... we don't know because we're not talking about individuals.

He's only 22; we should cut him some slack. Maybe he will realise that wisdom comes in not saying something so shrill but in listening listening listening.

I am a little sad for him. He cannot be happy.

See the seventh post in this thread, by ScottyMcBody:

"This guy fits the bill of a new stereotype of gay men -- the self-hating gay, should we call it?"

The strip is relevant to this theme.

I do agree this guy was a total closet case, but his underlying message is actually pretty relevant. The gay community has probably the worst PR management of any minority group in US history. The #1 rule of PR is to make yourself relatable to broader society, and we as a group really don't.
