Hi guys, my partner and I are taking a trip to London and Paris this March and I was wondering if anyone can recommend their favorite dance clubs to me?

Any place that plays trance and house music is preferable, but not anything notorious for drug use.

    Thanks!

Well I've been to London, but never to gay clubs.

Most clubs are located at Leicester Square. There are high end clubs, but there are also just bars there. Club Metra, Oxygen were all good.
There was a club at Leicester Square at the Penthouse. This one was really good, though the tickets aren't on everybody's budget, like £50.00. The music was really good though.

There was this one club Funky Buddha which I found on the internet had really great parties, but I wasn't allowed, because I wasn't 21 yet at the time. The door policy is real strict and they check everyone's ID. Some parties have strict dress codes.

One time I went to a club called AKA The End, but I didn't know it was a drugs club. Everybody there was on to something. I think it was an XTC party, so I would stay away from there, if that is not your deal. You should also keep in mind that to most clubs you can get free entry. The promoters always approached my friends and I and gave us free tickets. Meeting up with girls and getting in together will upgrade your chances of entry. I think I only paid for entry 1-2 times, but got a free drink inside.

You should be aware though that people will come up to you and ask you if you fancy a Charlie, or a Peter. Those are code for drugs.

There are clubs at in the Soho neighbourhood worth checking out as well.
If you want to save money on inner city travel, you can buy an Oyster card and travel with the metro or characteristic red double-decker busses (I recommend).
I hope you have fun and enjoy your trip. Sorry I don't have information about Paris for you. I have been there only once and it was really short, so can't give you proper information. Maybe someone else can.

There is no shortage in LDN, apparently there are even some straight clubs, though I never found any.

Check out the listings in the back of boyz here http://www.boyz.co.uk/

    I always like un-skinny bop http://www.unskinnybop.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/news.html

But Vauxhall is the place to play now, it's moved away from the centre of town after GAY moved and Ghetto closed (sad times)

Sounds like any advice I'd give is dated. I've been to GAY and a few others in Soho but from what I hear Vauxhaull would've been more my speed. Never made it down there though. Maybe this May when I go back.

Didn't go to any bars/clubs in Paris. Which doesn't seem all that bad because I don't remember seeing a guy of any sexual orientation that I wanted to sleep with while I was in Paris icon_smile.gif

All I remember of paris was a gay laundrette and then being tear-gassed by the French police, so on reflection was a great weekend in Paris.

As a general rule, Soho = Pop, Vauxhall = House. Many Soho regulars never venture to Vauxhall, and the Vauxhall boys have no time for the Soho scene where you'll hear the same song 10 times in a day.

I'd highly recommend visiting one of the big Vauxhall clubs Area or Fire while you're there. Check local gay papers for exactly what's playing on a specific weekend, but you can't really go wrong with Beyond, the Sat night afterhours at Area, but this only gets going around 5am. Amazing house music, and a very diverse crowd. There are also random big parties in large venues outside Vauxhall, so check the listings to make sure you're not missing one of them. Londoners party almost the entire weekend, and the 24-hour drinking laws have a lot to do with this.

There's casual drug use almost everywhere, but the later the party the more rampant it is - so stay away from Orange (at Fire), the Sunday afterhours that runs from 11pm to 6am Monday morning. It doesn't take a genius to realize that people who are still dancing this late in the weekend are getting help from their.... er.... pharmacist.

when i lived in london the only places i went to were trash palace which is more of a lounge and ghetto which is a club and located behind G-A-Y. those places were cool as fuck cuz everyone went their -gay or straight- they played awesome music and it wasnt a bunch of muscly queens being obnoxious yet everyone was still really hot and fun as fuck. i dont know if those places are still around.
g-a-y lounge actually was pretty fun too. i never went to the club. i went to the afterhours club though one time and it was pretty terrible.

This sounds like what I'm looking for. I want house or trance music, not a bunch of pop. I read more up on this place and it looks amazing, almost similar to Amnesia in Ibiza?

I hadn't been to Paris in a few years, but the gayborhood is Le Marais. There are a few clubs there. There are a few clubs in Tuileries as well.
When I went, I also went to Le Queen on Champs Elysees, but I don't think it's a gay club anymore.

The Vauxhall clubs are smaller, and are a series of interconnected rooms, all located under a railway bridge. So there's no massive dance floor like Amnesia, but they hold a lot of partygoers. These clubs are very diverse, featuring every gay stereotype and sub-group imaginable, along with a sprinkling of str8s. The DJs there spin great hard house and progressive that's 100x better than music you hear in gay clubs in the US (or in Los Angeles anyway), but you won't hear much trance.

If you want larger Ibiza-type clubs then check out Fabric, Ministry of Sound, or Matter. They play house, progressive, and trance, and feature some of the biggest names in EDM every weekend. I just checked MoS's website and here are some of the names appearing in March: Ferry Corsten, Joris Voorn, Roger Sanchez, Jerome Isma-Ae, BT, and Hernan Cattaneo & Nick Warren (spinning together - wow!). Ticket prices are rarely more than $30.
