"There's one constant: All the participants talk about pleasing their parents."

This is such an important concept in Chinese culture, many aspects of modern Chinese life are dictated by it. Homosexuality is not so much the problem in China, it's that Chinese people believe that gay couples will never have children to carry on the family name.

Yes, but few non-Western cultures are imbued with Confucian doctrine, which states (in so many words) that a child should be willing to cut out a piece of their flesh and give it to their parents if they want them too. There was also a belief in Chinese medicine that soup made from a child's flesh could cure their ailing parent's sickness, so guess what people were doing? (Mind you this is all pretty old school, people haven't making human meat soup in China for a very long time).

Meh, I think its the same in India and African cultures too, most parents expect their children to take care of them and so do I, but this meat thing is pretty graphic yeah
