If I ever have children, I WILL NOT let them near a heterosexual [former] church pastor! Thankfully, there is one less heterosexual pervert on the streets! icon_lol.gif

MILLERSPORT, Ohio -- A former Millersport pastor will spend the next six years in prison for having sex with a 16-year-old parishioner.

Daniel Monk, 48, on Thursday was sentenced to six years in prison (with credit for two days served). He also must pay a $2,500 fine and register as a Tier III sexual offender.

He was sentenced on two counts of felonious sexual battery and one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He pleaded no contest to those charges a month before his sentencing.

Monk used to preach behind the pulpit at Soul's Harbor Pentecostal Church in Millersport.

He was arrested Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, on sexual battery charges.

Court records show Monk admitted to investigators he was the victim’s boyfriend and that he kissed her and had sex with her at least two times.

Monk's original plea was not guilty and was entered Monday, Oct. 11.

Monk changed his plea to not guilty by reason of insanity Monday, Nov. 8. He then was transferred to Netcare in Columbus for mental-health testing. He was declared fit.

Monk later pleaded no contest to two counts of felonious sexual battery and one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor Wednesday, Jan 5, in Licking County common pleas court.

Before his January plea, Monk first fired his attorney and hired a new one. The new attorney asked for a continuance, but the judge denied the lawyer's request.

His maximum sentence was 10 years in prison and a $21,000 fine.

"Mr. Monk took something away from my daughter that she will never get back, feelings of trust, peace, feeling safe in her own home, in her own community and, sadly, in her own church. During sentencing, the judge said that the parents of victims take longer to recover than the actual victims. I sincerely hope while Mr. Monk is serving his sentence, it gives my family and Mr. Monk's family the time to heal from the heartbreak that has occurred over the past year," the victim's father told NBC4.

Monk was counseling the teenager after her parents' divorce.

Preachers are the worst kind of sexual offenders, just ask those sexually assaulted by priests. The fact that they are supposed to be examples of how to live, representative of all thats right and good in the world and to be trustworthy with our childrens safety and welfare.

To whom much is given much is expected, preachers are given 'charge' of a lot of 'trust', so when they fail us like this guy did and like with the Priests, they should expect the worst of punishments. I hope this idiot serves every day of his sentence.

In all of Europe the age of consent is 16. Why is this a big deal in the U.S.? She wasn't 8.

I agree that our age of consent is too high, however what the big deal is, is that this was a preacher, supposedly charged with caring for the security and welfare of his parishioners, instead used his position to arrange a personal sexual conquest of what by law is a minor. Offenders of this kind are the worst of the lot, hell !! even prison inmates find this so utterly disgusting that they target such people. If prisoners find guys like him reprehensible, surely you can understand.

Exactly! While the age is certainly an issue, it's more the fact that he was a pastor and that this girls family trusted him.
