"Wisconsin Democrats on Thursday fled the statehouse in an effort to prevent legislators from reaching a quorum and passing a bill put forth by Gov. Scott Walker (R), which would cripple the collective bargaining rights of public unions.

(Scroll down for the latest updates from Wisconsin)

The move produced a frantic political drama, as state troopers were reportedly sent out to find the fleeing lawmakers and Walker hinted that the National Guard would be called in to fill the void left by protesting union workers.

One Democratic senator told the Associated Press that he and his fleeing colleagues are currently in Illinois. ...

They would have gone to Canada but that might have cost them $5.50 a head. ... icon_lol.gif

    Labor Protests Expand To Ohio

"Building on the momentum in Wisconsin, where tens of thousands of protesters have turned out to oppose Republican Gov. Scott Walker's effort to strip collective-bargaining rights from the state's public-employee unions, President Barack Obama's campaign organization is mobilizing its followers in Ohio and Indiana, where similar measures are being considered.

Thousands descended upon the Ohio statehouse Thursday to protest a bill that would eliminate collective-bargaining rights for state employees and curtail the rights of local-level government employees. The debate is similar to that in Wisconsin: Supporters say it's necessary to deal with budget problems, while opponents say it's nothing but a vicious assault on unions.

Now folded into the Democratic National Committee, Obama's campaign group Organizing For America is already actively engaged in Wisconsin and is beginning to ramp up organizing efforts in Ohio, though observers say the latter process is about a week behind that in Wisconsin. The group is also beginning to dig into Indiana, whose legislature is considering a bill to limit collective bargaining by teachers. ... "

American workers need to get organized again to fight big business and the financial businesses that have taken America to the cleaners. There needs to be a balancing power and Congress isnt it. Congress is bought by the money of corporations. So american workers need to get back into unions and fight against corporate abuse of the economy and the disparity in wages.

    "People Power" on the march.
Didn't the Repubs used to say they supported "People Power".
Or do they only support it when it's people in OTHER countries who are fighting for their rights.

    2 things:
    1) What a bunch of wussies... Are they gonna do this for every issue that they might lose when it comes to a vote?

They actually were located - at a RESORT in Illinois (wonder who paid for that?)

    2) "... which would cripple the collective bargaining rights of public unions..."

Not quite. Not even close. Oh, wait, this is the AOL-Huffington Post you're referencing. I guess if a public sector union doesn't get an increase in salaries and benefits for its members, it's a major assault on the union.

    Wussies? ...... sorry
By NOT voting they are doing the only thing they CAN do to prevent this asshole from doing what he's attempting to do
    .... And not quite?
The bill (SB11), proposed by Republican Gov. Scott Walker on Valentine’s Day, specifically seeks to eliminate the collective bargaining rights for public employees, except for public safety employees, who happen to be the only union members who supported Walker in his last campaign.

What part of eliminate do you not understand?

Thread topic is about the spineless, Democrat Senator scum who fled Wisconsin just so they wouldn't have to vote and lose on an issue. Bullshit. They did it to FORCE debate and discussion on the SENATE floor! period.

They should be jailed when (if) they ever return to Wisconsin from that RESORT they are hiding out in down in Illinois.
You should be a repugnant pundit on your beloved spin FOX channel.

FYI, SB - Wisconsin is NOT Texas.
The actions of these brave Democrats will be recieved VERY differently by the people of WI than the similar actions of the TX Dems were.

It would be absolutely great if we find out the union folks paid for the trip to the resort. Better than a soap opera.

    Ummm... they already had debate.

It was time to vote, so like spoiled 5 year olds, realizing that they weren't going to get what they want, they took their toys and went home (to a RESORT in Illinois).
*Unfortunately for you I have actual first hand accounts on the ground there... I have had daily updates (multiple during the day).. it beats the hell out of what your sacred FOX reports to you down in lauderdale.

Sorry... full information trumps Fox spin bites every time.

Funny, I got an update just 2 hours ago from family in Milwaukee AND in Madison.

Oh, and my cousin in Madison is a public school teacher.

I'm sure they are watching the 'FOX' affiliate eh? and I'm POSITIVE your 'cousin' would tell you you're FOS too...
But then again, in your family if you were black, you'd most likely vote for slavery to return!

Sadly, SB is only interested in stiring the pot and has no real interest in the topic.
The 14 Democratic Wisconsin representatives did nothing wrong, but are using a well known strategic tactic to slow the strong arm tactics being used and to force the Wisconsin Governor to allow for public discussion and interaction....not "wussies" but smart!

Since I work for The Department of Transportation in the State of Ohio, I have a very direct and intimate connection to this topic. I have been to the Ohio Statehouse and have protested with teachers, professors, firemen, policemen, social workers, and many 1000's of other state and municipal workers.....Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The options of the changes proposed are not positive for workers and are an unbelievable power grab being forced through by the new class of new republican governors that accepted campaign money from the Republican Governors Association and other donors. The unions did not cause the economic problems of Ohio. Poor economic choices and the global recession are the cause. Union busting is being done under the guise of economic need....I will not be surprised if this becomes violent. These new governors had better be in Kevlar.....or their days could be limited. It is getting really HOT and tense.....
