Here is SC we have a lot of obese, fat, whatever other names there are country ass people and therefore new gyms are VERY popular here. Today (Friday) I went to my local mall and walked into a planet fitness taking up like half the mall with glass panels in the front so everyone can see you workout. I already belong to another gym which is very legit. Im looking into the gym through the glass panels and I see a sea of purple and yellow walls, the no lug zone, an ass ton of treadmills, like 2 smith machines, no free weights, no benches, and a bunch of tables and chairs. If this is not the end of the world Im not sure what other sign there is. And as I walked into the mall all I saw walking into the gym were fat ass 2X4 cant get through the bathroom door women!!!! I'm sorry but planet fitness you are a joke and not welcomed in SC if you are going to put yourself in a mall of all places and attract fat girls all day. Please state your comments about planet fitness and why it is a joke of a gym and should not even be in business.

I really don't see your problem.

If you wanna go to a different kind of gym, go to a different kind of gym.

Planet Fitness is just a business trying to make money, and they do that by using a business model that caters to an extremely large demographic, ie fatass Americans.

    So what's your problem again?

    Ditto,

the clients they are trying to attract are those who don't want to feel intimidated by those of guys who are regular gym goers. Believe it or not, some ppl think they are still too fat to goto a normal gym.

    Perspective, just sayin'.

You're exactly the reason Planet Fitness even exists. The people that go there don't want to be in the same gym as you...with good reason.

Instead of mocking them, you should be applauding the effort of the people for trying to better themselves. Everyone needs to start somewhere. They need encouragement, not your disgusting attitude.

From a trainers perspective, alot of overweight women want to look and feel better...they come to me since I have the tools to change them and in the long run they feel better about them selves...icon_biggrin.gif..
Dude, don't rag on them...It look like you could use some help as well....just saying..your belly is saging...icon_exclaim.gif

Planet Fitness is not my style. Knowing that "effort", er, lifting heavy weights, is discouraged--because it will possibly intimidate other customers--is all the reason I need.

And I take issue with the "at least they..." apologies. At least is next to nothing. It's a marketing ploy built around people who'll never get it. That said, it's an awesome business model.

I'm actually a member of the Planet Fitness in my area, and its not just a bunch of over weight women. I see people from all walks of life which I think is great that people can come together and not feel intimidated working out in front of each other. Planet Fitness is a "Judgement Free Zone" so dumbasses like you don't laugh and joke at people actually wanting to start making healthy choices for their lives.

I may be mistaken, but I think Planet Fitness is a franchise and as such, there may be some differences at each facility. I belong to a PF and mine has plenty of free weights and dumbbells in addition to a slew of machines. They do only have one smith machine, though. I go to a personal trainer at a dedicated gym, but PF is great for cardio and pick up days I miss with the trainer. I like a gym with a broad demographic; everything from grandmas to muscle junkies.

As a kid I had bad eyesight but didn't know it. I couldnt catch a fly ball to save my life, despite trying desperately. Every laughed and made fun of me.

I used to be an emotional cripple until a lot of therapy. Many friends who wanted more of me got mad and gave up on me while I desperately tried to open myself up to emotion.

Many times I tried to quit smoking and failed, and people told me I was weak for falling off the wagon.

    At least I was trying.

    It wasn't next to nothing.

Everyone who tries deserves compassion, not judgement.

Planet Fitness, at least most if not all are franchises. Anyone can buy a name, it doesn't mean they know what they're doing. Or maybe they know exactly what they're doing as more women seem to enjoy malls than men, and a payoff for working out at a mall for a woman may be doing some shopping, window shopping or seeing a movie. Don't see why it's the end of the world. A mall's nothing more than a glorified shopping center with walls and a roof, that's it.

Most people you encounter in a gym, including the huge body builders are kind people, but when one of these women you are calling fat asses or a skinny guy with twigs for arms encounter a not-so-nice person like you, that is what they will remember and never want to set foot in a gym again. Offer encouragement to people that are not yet physically fit but are making an effort that come into your own gym and perhaps this 'no judgment zone' business model will not be so successful for Planet Fitness.

I go to a PF and there are lots of free weights, Nautilus style machines and cardio. It is a franchise, like starboard5 said.

There are also plenty of men, and some women, who are quite muscular and do strenuous workouts. I've never heard the 'lunk alarm' go off when I've been there.

If you don't want to go to one, then don't go. Not everyone wants to work out lifting weights and making noises like they are passing a bowling ball.
