So i'm about 4-5 weeks into telling most of my family and friends that i'm gay. the first question i get asked is: "what made you decide to come out?"...honestly, my answer has been because of this website.

before i had discovered RealJock, i had just assumed there weren't any other guys out there like me. however, i've made some good (virtual) friends and gotten a lot of tremendous advice. it was the final push over the edge that made me come clean about who i really am. since then, it's been an incredible experience!

just wanted to say thanks to those guys on this site who are real and genuine...it has meant a lot to me over the past few months and has obviously made a huge impact on my life. I'm so grateful!

Wow - what an incredibly amazing post to read first thing in the morning (morning to me anyway lol!).

There can be some really negative things said and done here - some of which I admittedly have been sucked into more than I care to remember - that often prompt me to cancel my membership, take down my info and forget about it. But then I read something like this and remember how important an outlet this can be - and not just for the beauty tips!!!!

Thank YOU for keeping things in perspective. Congratulations, your ride is about to get alot more adventurous - enjoy every second of it!!!!

    Carry on...

This is a great site for helping that. Congrats on starting the process. I was really confused whether I was gay at first but this site helped me realize that being gay wasn't the stereotype.

Congratulations Brad. That's great news. I came out even later in life and, albeit very difficult, best decision I ever made, I hope the same hold true for you! Cheers!

Community is a surprising thing - the power of acceptance, support, encouragement. When you belong - you truly belong.
It's why it's called REAL jock.

Your reality is only getting better and better, and we're just as lucky you came here.

Thanks for a great thread. And welcome to your world.

Brad -- congrats! To echo what people have said above, finding that you have a community that you didn't suspect can be an amazing experience. The first bar I ever went to when I turned 21 (old-time SF folks: anyone remember "Fraternity?") was such an experience for me. I turned to the friend who brought me and made some comment like, "All these guys are gay?"

Real Jock was very instrumental and timely in my own struggles. Had it not been for the wonderful friends on here with compassion, understanding and tolerance, i know my struggles would still be in front of me....thankfully, they are quickly disappearing in the dust...So Brad, you are not alone, don't ever believe the sour puss's that say it is just the internet....these guys are as real as you can get and it is all about faith in them and you...hold your head up..............................Keithicon_wink.gif

The internet has been a life-saver for gay people, especially those outside big city areas. Before internet usage became widespread in the late 90s, it was easy to think that gay people were some sort of rare anomaly. I certainly did. Without the internet, I doubt I would ever have realised how normal it is to be gay.
