    Calling all baseball fans.

This is the thread where baseball fans, or fans of baseball players , can discuss the season, their favorite team, baseball memories, eye candy and whatever. It is all things baseball. College baseball too.

    Anyways...

To start things off, I'd like to say that this year, I am rooting for the Baltimore Orioles to end the season above .500 this year. If they do it this year, it will be the first time above .500 since the '97 season, which is the last time they won the AL East Division.

Wow, what a good idea to post the link to this thread in the general category! I love baseball but rarely get past the first few categories (time). I'll be sure to check this out more often.

I hope your O's have better luck in 2011, coolarmydude, but here's hoping they finish behind MY team!!

Many people think the Rays will finish fourth in the AL East this year because of our free agent losses (Carl Crawford, Carlos Pena, Raphael Soriano) and the trading of Jason Bartlett and Matt Garza. The Rays aren't in a large market at all and "going economy" has been the focus for now. We still have the BEST starting pitching in the AL East (maybe an argument from some, but just look at the numbers---and the overall age of the guys).

Adding Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon may have outsiders to question these moves, but neither player comes real expensive to the team and hopefully....Manny can give us some pop from the DH spot and Damon will provide some needed clubhouse leadership to our new kids and give third baseman Evan Longoria a little help as well.

We'll be going with a bullpen by committee this year, and if we are in contention by the trade deadline in July, I feel we'll make a deal for a closer to help us out.

We won't give up or give in in 2011. Look for the Rays to still be right in the thick of things in the AL East, possibly contending with Boston for the division title.

The "possible" order of finish in the AL East

    1. Boston
2 RAYS (winning the Wild Card)
    3. New York
    4. Baltimore
    5. Toronto

It was purely by accident. I had already submitted the thread when I realized it was in the wrong category. Knowing that threads cannot be deleted, I then created an identical thread in the baseball category and edited a forward message to the general category thread. I did realize while making the corrections that it was actually a good idea.

And NO, this is not my team of choice since they won the pennant last year. Been a fan for years.

The experts keep telling us in KC the Royals have the best farm system in the bigs. Not sure if it's true or not..it may be PR to keep us from jumping off the upper deck on opening day. I'm hoping we can finish the season with only 90 losses. One winning season since the strike year of 1994 is a long time for sucky baseball.

I hope Greinke can do well in Milwaukee. Helluva talent...kind of off in the head sometimes. Breaks my heart to see David DeJesus in an A's uniform. He didn't know it yet, but he was gonna ask me out for a drink after opening day had he remained a Royal.

Thanks for the vote of confidence with the Wild Card for my Rays. If we can get enough bodies together to form a bullpen and if they come through, we'll make it a three team race right down to the last week. The baseball experts say the Red Sox will win the division and the Rays are third with an 81-81 record.

And.....you will come to love and worship Carl Crawford in left field. We could not afford him, but this guy really can do it all.

Congrats to Derek Jeter (3000!!), one of my all time favorite players! Can't quite figure why people hate the Yankees so much. Well, maybe Boston, but they have good reasons. As for the Orioles....um....lets just say they have some serious work to do, and will need a ton of help from other teams, in the second half of the season if they want to see post season. But the Al East is always tough....too many good teams.

Yeah, but, Tampa's solidly in the hunt. Got as good a chance as any to overtake Boston and the Yankees. Its nice to see you giving some props to Jeter though. That couldn't have been easy for a rival team. The Yankees are filthy rich and they made sure Jeter will be filthy rich too. Money aside (there's a phrase I bet you don't hear every day in Tampa; no offense, your team is known to hold on to a nickel till the buffalo sleeps), Jeter's always been a stand up guy, classy, a model captain, a great short stop, and never tested positive for PEDs, so we should all root for him, even if we never root for the Yankees..

    oooops, as of today-

    1.Boston Red Sox
    2.New York Yankees
    3.Tampa Bay Rays
    4.Toronto Blue Jays
    5.Baltimore Orioles

And I might add, Baltimore is the only one in the AL East under 500 at .404, the lowest in the American League.

In the AL Central, of course, my Detroit Tigers are in first place.
