Okay, as a companion thread to the one about shows that were cancelled too soon...what show or shows do you think should've been cancelled even before they even made it on TV.

For my part...one of the shows that I absolutely HATED was "Full House." Of course, it didn't help that today, several of the vintage shows I do like to watch were not on so that bloody "Full House" could be shown in a weekend marathon!!! Grrr!!!

I hated, hated, HATED that bloody show!!! And I also disliked that it provided us with Mary Kate and Ashley!!!

The Simpsons. Should have stopped after season 9; it's almost painful to watch nowadays, knowing how hilarious it once was in the season 5-7 era at its highpoint. Nowadays, episodes focus on random characters with hit/miss (mostly miss) jokes or featuring Homer Simpson and pushing the envelope on how far he can get away with his stupidity.

At the moment, Desperate Housewives. Up until the SHOCKING MOMENT IN SEASON FIVE, it was great, but without Edie the show never has quite recaptured its mojo.

I cringe every time Two and a Half Men or Married With Children pop up on the TV screen at my gym. It's hard to focus on technique when I start getting aggressive.

"MASH" and "All in the Family" are two examples of shows that started out brilliantly funny and ended painful to watch and completely unfunny. When I say that they are two of my favorite shows in the history of TV, I have to clarify I'm only talking about the first 3 or 4 seasons. The early seasons and the later seasons are like two completely different shows.

Although I think this is true of most shows that run a long time. Shows RARELY become better as they get older. The creative juices are really flowing in the beginning so people come on board to watch(usually around the second season). Then, the shows hit their peak in the 2nd or 3rd season and start to decline. People keep watching out of habit so they just keep the shows on even though the creative juices have stopped flowing.

True Blood season 2 dragged on for too long, just like it did in book 2 of the books. The whole thing with the Maenad had nothing to do with the main plot of either and served as nothing but filler to meet a 13 episode season and a decent page count.

Does local news count in this list?

    Saved By The Bell....

That show was NEVER funny....the only good thing about it was that it gave us Elizabeth Berkley.

That 70s Show. was funny for the first 4 seasons or so but after Eric left and Laurie went from red to blonde, the show sucked. It was hilarious with Tommy Chong playing the older hippy guy.

Almost every successful show hangs on too long. Think 90210. Those actors were near 40 when it went off the air. Very few shows shut down in their prime, because they are too much of a cash cow.

Mad About You. The first few years were great, though, and no reruns anymore. icon_sad.gif
