I don't know whether to laugh icon_lol.gif because she is so f***ing insane, or to cry because she takes all this crap so seriously icon_cry.gif. Maybe the best reaction is -- I am scared!! No emoticon for that, is there?

That interview is absolutely insane. She is so twisted. Does anyone really take Westboro seriously?

Pakman asks her in the interview if their site has been taken down by Anonymous because he has not been able to connect to godhatesfags.com. Shirley Phelps-Roper denies it and says there is nothing wrong, but I just tried a couple times and also can't connect to the site. Has Anonymous succeeded?

Here is the link to see if anyone else can connect:

This church is a scam! They usually go after victims in order to get people angry enough to infringe the church's rights, then they sue to make money. They are all licensed lawyers and this is how they support themselves.
The poor soldier's father who sued them was ordered to pay their legal fees.
We have to stop giving them attention and they will go away.

I'm somewhat fascinated by the family. Given that they are nearly unanimously despised, I see them as tools to teach this nation a valuable lesson about speech.

I'll be surprised if they lose the Supreme Court case.

I watched a documentary on this family in my English class last year and I do have to agree with the guy who was interviewing Shirley in that I am actually fascinated with this family. It is beyond my thinking that these people can actually believe in this and pass this hatred on to their children and grandchildren and literally scare them into staying with the family. When I say fascinated I do not mean I agree with them, I just find the whole situation interesting. The children have it so bad too, they are forced to go to these protests and the people protesting the Phelp's family are taking it out on the children. In the documentary I watched, one of the little boys got a drink cup from a fast food place thrown at him with stuff still in it... it really is sad.

One of her brothers ran away when he was 18 for similar reasons. I read his story since it's published online somewhere and it's fairly sad as well as fascinating

    EDIT: Found it.

Just to be clear, the article does not indicate that she was sexually abused... that was for some reason my first assumption when I read the title to this post.

Still, it is a terribly sad thing to happen to any child.

And woe to Fred Phelps when he passes on: if the Creator he will face is anything like the Jesus I have read about in the New Testament (a merciful God who preached repentance, reconciliation, and forgiveness) ... he just might be in for a terrible surprise:

(KJV) Luke 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

I will agree that she's batshit crazy, but … guys … you have to actually watch the interview. The article totally spins what she says. When asked if her brother was abused, she said, "If he said anything that sounds like something other than a spanking when he needed it, then he lied."

I'm not going to argue whether or not spanking is abuse, but I will say that I've been spanked a couple times in my childhood, and damn did I deserve it.
