We drive down tomorrow for 6 days, officially to attend a function where we formally receive a very unique custom-painted bicycle that commemorates the SMART Ride, with full media coverage there when we take it. Anyone in KW can attend and see us.

I bought it for my partner last November, but let them keep it in KW for fundraising purposes until now. (Actually it was already brought up here briefly in January for another event, covered by the gay rags, but we'll keep it here permanently now for our own fundraising)

So we'll be staying at a KW place we haven't been before, GLBT mixed, but given to us as a free gift, and we'll see how it is. (It's called Cypress House if you know it, because we do not) We've always stayed at gay-only clothing optional in KW, but we're flexible. I'll report back here what we think of it.

Not sure what our Internet access will be there, but we'll have the MacBook with us, and of course my iPhone. Don't expect my usual input here, regardless of Internet availability there, as we'll be going nonstop as we usually are when on the road.

See you guys more in about a week! icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks! One of the sad things I had to do today, was to put into our luggage (matching, that I got for us last year, I think they look so pretty, sized to exactly fit our car trunk), were the folders from our gay attorney (the former Deputy Mayor of Fort Lauderdale).

In those folders are our General Powers of Attorney, Health Care Surrogate Agreements, Living Wills, and Last Will & Testaments. If we could be legally married in this Red Republican State, that step wouldn't be necessary.

But because US Republicans don't want us to have any civil rights as gays, we have to take these extra steps whenever we travel. That even then may not be honored, as the Republican Florida Supreme Court has ruled. And so when guys here on RJ tell you that gay marriage isn't important, remember us.

Who have to cart around a load of legal documents wherever we go, and have them placed on file in all the facilities where we expect to receive medical care. Yeah, gay marriage isn't worth getting concerned about. icon_rolleyes.gif

You guys who say that here can go fuck yourselves. In the meantime, I'm helping my partner pack his bag. (Mine was packed by noon today -- I'm so military efficient. icon_biggrin.gif )

Well of course, but thanks for your concern!

We only live some 200 miles to the north, so the sun exposure is about the same all the time for us. But the extended forecast looks like sunny and near 80 F the whole time we'll be there! YAY!!!

I gotta ask...where are you? We're up in Mount Dora. Love Key West--you'll have a grand time. Of course, you know that.

Wilton Manors, exactly 193 car miles from KW the way we go, so not very far. US 1 once you get onto the Keys can be a slow slog, because of all the towns along the way, where the speed limit drops to 35 MPH, and you run into local traffic lights.

Better now than what it used to be, though, when I first went down there in 1973 by motorcycle. Lots of drawbridges that were always going up, all gone now except for just 1, I think, though I haven't seen it in operation for many years. And the road much wider, especially the bridges, though much of it still 1-lane in each direction. Do you know I've pedaled the whole length by bicycle from Miami? Now THAT'S different.

    That's OK, I hate you, too. (Also j/k) icon_wink.gif

Yeah, as I said above, I always give a report of where we go, usually with pics. I've shown the gay New Orleans House down there before on this site, and the Equator, so you'll hear and hopefully see my comments & pics about the Cypress House.

Again, this stay is a gift thing, not a place we chose ourselves, but we're keeping an open mind. GLBT, it's neither exclusively gay men nor clothing optional, and we're not even sure of the accommodations they offer. But it's just a couple of blocks down from Duval on Caroline, so near the main walking attractions, and not too far from the restaurants we like. They don't have on-site parking, being an old KW house without a lot of yard, so we hope to find a place to tuck our car and just keep it there, and then walk the whole 6 days as we usually do.

Haven't been to Key West since I was a little kid. I have an acquaintance who is living there for a year in preparation for the priesthood. I hope to get down there so he can show me around.
