About.com Gay LifeThe infamous hacking collective Anonymous has lived up to its name, having successfully evaded the FBI and every other defense agency, including private firms like HBGary. But they are anything but subtle. Bored with the ease at which it brought HBGary to its knees, the group has moved on to another target, the anti-gay bullhorn Westboro Baptist Church.
"Bring it!" Westboro Baptist Church said after Anonymous said they would target the church if they did not stop their public protests. If you recall, Westboro is infamous for crashing military funerals with sign and chants blaming soldier deaths on God's wrath for America's acceptance of homosexuality.
Anonymous chose to use the same brazen methods of attack:
"We have always regarded you and your ilk as an assembly of graceless sociopaths and maniacal chauvinists & religious zealots, however benign, who act out for the sake of attention & in the name of religion," Anonymous wrote to Westboro.
Westboro's response was as juvenile as their protest signs: You're "a puddle of pimple-faced nerds," they barked back. Sounds like virtual fighting words to me. We'll see if Anonymous makes good on their charge and if Westboro can come up with something no one else has been able to figure out: how to actually beat Anonymous
