Human Rights Watch Ask Slovenian Govt. To Extend Civil Marriage to Same-Sex Couples

    [QUOTE]
The Slovenian Parliament should adopt the new Family Code proposed by the Slovenian Government, Human Rights Watch said today in a letter to parliament members. The law would extend civil marriage to lesbian and gay couples and put heterosexual and homosexual partnerships on equal legal footing, including the right of same-sex partners to adopt.

Slovenia seems like it would be most likely the first Slavic nation to extend marriage recognition to same sex countries...of all the Slavic nations, I think it tends to be most progressive.

Slovenia is a wonderful place! I worked for their ski team several times, and was wholly and completely accepted as an out gay man - the athletes even make the sort of jokes about it that let you know they like you and don't care (we had double bunks at one point, and "so who was on top?" was one joke).

The NW part of the country - Bled, Kranjska Gora, Planica -all really, really beautiful!
