QUOTE AUTHOR GOES HERE"England wicketkeeper Steven Davies publicly announced on Monday that he is gay, becoming, it is believed, the first active professional cricketer to out himself.

The reason why I've decided to make it public is simply because I think the more people who do it the more acceptable it becomes."

He admitted that he was partly inspired to make the announcement by Wales rugby international Gareth Thomas, who also went public about his homosexuality in 2009."

There are more and more guys coming out that are professionals in sports that are not popular in the US (figure skating, swimming, diving, rugby and now cricket).

Do you think the big-4 American sports (football, baseball, basketball and hockey) is ready for a gay professional sports star?

Who do you think the first gay American professional sports star will be?

There are a handful of gay US pro athletes. But they tend to come out after they retire.

I don't think Kelly Slater has reached his prime yet...The passing of Andy Irons (RIP) only confirms this 10 year rivalry of Kelly has only begun in surfing.

I don't have a clue as to who it will be, but there are some I would like to see come out!

Actually, this might happen sometime in the next 5 years with a player already in professional sports. What I hope will happen as from the view of the player, he (or she) looks at it as, "I'm just a pro athlete that happens to be gay." Not being a "gay pro athlete."

For me, I'm a businessman that happens to be gay. I don't see the need to make it my calling card or have it front and center. Not that I'm afraid of it/closeted/ashamed, whatever. To me, I don't see the need to advertise in my work. Some know. Some don't. I really could care less if they did or not and that is how I hope an athlete will look at it.

I wish I knew! No insider information here!

It would be kinda nice if local (well, semi-local) hunk Evan Longoria of the Tampa Bay Rays would be, however, he is spending all of his time showing the world how straight he is....Lots of men (me included) think he's hot, but kee your eyes on Rays rookie pitcher Jeremy Hellickson. He's handsome as all get out!!

Sound like a "homie homo" here, don't I??

well it would be good for the whole gay cause if an athlete came out, especially a professional American athlete, but I don't see any on the horizon. Although there was talk for some time of Joey Votto being gay, but that is yet to be seen.
