Hey guys, so I'm starting to hear from schools... I've been invited to interview at UCLA for screenwriting and am shortlisted for a Fulbright, which are great honors on their own, but nothing final; however, today I received my first acceptance: Illinois State.

They have an interesting Ph.D. for writers and am considering them heavily, but if I'm going to spend 5-6 years anywhere, I want to make sure I am happy in the place. So do any of you guys know anything about Normal? Any info on the city or what it's like to be a student (undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral) would be helpful. Thanks.

P.S... this puts me in driving distance to all you studs in Chicago icon_wink.gif

I would feel completely out of place in a town called "Normal."
However, I was once a member of NORML.

Sorry I couldn't be of more benefit to this thread. icon_razz.gif

I am in Champaign, just next to Normal if you will, and all college towns are the same--they are what you make of it. Go there, feel the program, feel if you can have a great life there.

The Midwest has it quirks (I have lived in Cleveland, Saint Louis and Champaign) but it is a warming place.

I've visited ISU a few times. It's always a good time if you're looking for a party. The area isn't particularly nice, but that's the norm for a lot of college towns.

The town is in a middle of no where. The winter sucks and is like 3 hours drive to Chicago. I had few friends who went to school there. It's pretty good I hear.
