Majority in Poll Back Employees In Public Unions

By MICHAEL COOPER and MEGAN THEE-BRENAN

As labor battles erupt in state capitals around the nation, a majority of Americans say they oppose efforts to weaken the collective bargaining rights of public employee unions and are also against cutting the pay or benefits of public workers to reduce state budget deficits, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

Labor unions are not exactly popular, though: A third of those surveyed viewed them favorably, a quarter viewed them unfavorably, and the rest said they were either undecided or had not heard enough about them. But the nationwide poll found that embattled public employee unions have the support of most Americans — and most independents — as they fight the efforts of newly elected Republican governors in Wisconsin and Ohio to weaken their bargaining powers, and the attempts of governors from both parties to cut their pay or benefits.

Americans oppose weakening the bargaining rights of public employee unions by a margin of nearly two to one: 60 percent to 33 percent. While a slim majority of Republicans favored taking away some bargaining rights, they were outnumbered by large majorities of Democrats and independents who said they opposed weakening them.

Those surveyed said they opposed, 56 percent to 37 percent, cutting the pay or benefits of public employees to reduce deficits, breaking down along similar party lines. A majority of respondents who have no union members living in their households opposed both cuts in pay or benefits and taking away the collective bargaining rights of public employees.

Just listening to some of the BS on Fox tonight, one would never know that the legitimate credible polls show that the American people firmly oppose the actions of Walker and the Repub party.
The BS spin on Fox would lead one to believe that the opposite was true.
Which is exactly the intention of the liars on Fox.

This is why Fox viewers live in an alternate reality from the rest of the country

As people find out more about the bill, that it contains more than just balancing the budget, but also includes busting unions, Walker is losing support in Wisconsin. The workers in Wisconsin are seeing this as an attack on their rights to collectively bargain and that's why people who aren't even public employees are not happy with Walker. Polls already show that if an election were held today, Walker would not win. A lot of people in Wisconsin are upset with the fact that Obama has not done anything for the economy and so many voted Republican in opposition to him, but they want to collectively bargain and so they do not approve of this bill of Walker. They want a balance budget, but they also want the right to collectively bargain.

    Yup.
Except I don't think that people think Obama hasn't done "anything for the economy".
He clearly has improved the economy from the mess he inherited.
They just think he hasn't done enough.
But, I think the main thing was the HCR bill.
People felt that Obama and the Dems rammed it through without any bipartisan compromise, and that the Dems were out of control and needed to be reined in.
So, voters reined them in last November.

Now, the Repubs are the ones who are trying to ram through legislation that the people don't want or approve of.
It's the Repubs who are out of control.
And if the Repubs don't back down and take the will of the people into consideration - they'll get their asses kicked at the polls next year too.

One of the most rabid Repubs on RJ - AGREES that Fox viewers are brainwashed!
If even SB agrees that Fox lies people into believing shit that isn't true - then Fox really must be full of shit.

The HCR bill is not very popular here in WI, especially among union members and those who have health benefits. Many feel the HCR bill will make it too easy for employers to drop their health benefits and let the government take it over and union members like the health benefits they have and don't want to give this up.
