CHRISTIAN DIOR TO FIRE DESIGNER JOHN GALLIANO

    From CNN:

Paris (CNN) -- Christian Dior has started proceedings to fire designer John Galliano after he was filmed making anti-Semitic comments in a Paris restaurant, the fashion giant said Tuesday.

The company condemned his "deeply offensive statements and conduct" in a statement announcing the plan to fire him.

The statement came hours after Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman condemned Galliano's praise of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.

"I love Hitler," Galliano said in a video obtained by Britain's Sun newspaper. "Your mother, your forefathers would be f---ing gassed and f---ing dead."

The comments were reportedly made at a Paris cafe last year.

"I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano's comments that surfaced today," said Portman, who appears in ads for Miss Dior Cherie perfume. "In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way.

"I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful," she said.

Before the video surfaced on Monday, Christian Dior already had suspended Galliano for allegedly making anti-Semitic remarks in another incident.

The fashion house said Friday that Galliano was suspended from his duties pending the outcome of an investigation into remarks the designer allegedly made last week.

Galliano was arrested Thursday night following an argument in a bar in Paris' Marais district, a prosecutor said.

Another example of how ugliness is masked by beauty. Shame.

But it's what he creates thats beautiful. I fell in love with him when he appeared in the DEC 2003 issue of Vogue in the Alice In Wonderland editorial with Natalia Vodianova. Gwen Stefani wouldnt be the same without him (or Vivienne Westwood, but still). And out of all the dresses in the infamous scene in Sex and The City where Carrie is trying on all those wedding dresses, his stands out the most. He's got a signature style all his own and he did it so well. It's really heartbreaking when one of your heros who've you looked up to for so long shows their true colors.

He's still a fashion cash cow. Backlash now, blow-over later, before you know it he'll be making couture again. Yes this makes him a disgusting human being, but you can't replace his aesthetic and craft in the micro small market that is couture.

    Hmmm.

I would think that people would be more careful in regards to what they say and do, especially in this age of instant, powerful, well placed technology.

I'm sure this will hurt him and his business in some way, but he still has his own clothing line to fall back on and I'm sure that people will continue to buy his merchandise.

Dior has always hired designers for their name. Galliano is still a name.

Stockhausen publicly admired the thought and planning that went into 9-11. His daughter changed her name after, but Stockhausen is still admired after.

I will still wear my Christian Dior with pride; it's the House that's intriguing.

See the thing is, someone needs to explain to this asshole that Gays were gassed and killed by the Nazi's... not to be too blunt about it, but he wouldn't last long under a nazi regime!

apparently the couple had been rude to him prior , thinking he was a tramp as he tried talking to them .
so she probably is an ugly bitch , but that's no excuse still.

helene mercier is in montreal to perform, i wonder what she'll be wearing, hahaha. ( she's the wife of bernard arnault, who owns Dior ) .

High "fashion" is FUG--LEE! Try and find 1 good picture of him, or 1 picture of his runway where the models look comfortable/or where you could see anyone wearing that shit down the street. Good luck.

I hate that these guys get big offa being talentless hacks in the first place...This guy just drives it home.

Shame for the people ---> icon_redface.gif

Amusing you would deem something that takes literally hundreds of man hours with painstaking precision to construct talentless.

Interesting. The vid clip Lenoxx had was taken down, and I can't find any other of Galliano on YouTube, except much older ones of some of his fashion shows.

This guy must have a lot of pull, and is working furiously to squelch any showing of these incidents.

What a shame. Galliano has just ruined himself. Sometimes it really is better to keep certain comments to yourself. Natalie is more attractive now then even for what she said and I would marry her.

Here's the closest I could find, via NBC's Today show from their own site, just brief excerpts of the original video:

He's actually kinda funny, I've met a few gay guys in my time who support Hitler but its so stupid, they'd be the first the gas chamber........

    HOWEVER

I really do think they provoked him into this and havent we all said nasty things when we are drunk and angry ?

Also he is allowed to have his views, no matter how many people disagree with them, freedom of speech is important !
