A friend of mine asked me about recommending some ab exxcercises for him to do. He has had c and l vertebra fused as early as 6 years ago. He's quite a fit guy but is reluctant to target his core. Any ideas that wouldn't put too much stress on the lower back n neck.

Get a referral from the surgeon to see a physical therapist. The PT can educate you on proper exercises to strengthen the core and protect the spine. Wouldn't take general advice from semi knowlegable individuals. Spinal fusion is not something you want to fuck with.

I can tell you this much....don't do crunches. Or anything else involving sagital flexion of the spine. Or transverse movements, like twists. He needs to work on static holds, and then progress to mobility movements (once he is stabilized).

    Static holds.
