For 29 years I have been fat. I decided this year to gain control and be healthy for once. But I have no idea what it is like to be fit and muscular and healthy...does anyone have any insight?

It's awesome. Especially the part where you get to beat up the other kids and take their lunch money.

But seriously, folks, one thing I noticed in development was that I didn't see myself as getting bugger. I saw other guys as being skinny. Esp. their arms....like, how can you lift anything with those, and aren't you embarassed to gave those spaghetti strings hanging out of your shirt sleeves.

Think of the tastiest, most delicious food item you know. Now take that euphoria and multiply it by 1000. That's what being healthy feels like. To put a spin on a cliche, "Nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels".

(Note: "healthy", "fit" and "muscular" aren't always synonymous :winkicon_smile.gif

To me, healthy is being able to physically and mentally function to optimum efficiency in everything you do in your everyday life.

When I was more fit and muscular, people, even straight men, treated me with more respect and they wanted to get to know me better. They showed more intesrest in what I had to say. That came in handy at work. As soon as I started putting on some abdominal fat and my arms became less defined, people around me didn't treat me the same way.

So yeah! From my experience, being fit and muscular makes you feel great and confident, but most of all, people seem to pay more attention to you, and that can be great for your self-esteem and for business.

well, I come from the opposite perspective: I used to be really skinny....after I bulked up..things really changed in how people interacted with me....I started getting shout outs from straight women at gas stations,"...hey, nice machine!"...even the mail man said, "..wow, you strong, big muscles"...including some guys calling me "bitch" when I took my shirt or...or if they touched my stomach and it was really solid...

I still haven't gotten used to it...don't really get hit on by guys....either I'm oblivious..or way too shy...there is definitely a psychological component to getting fit if one has not traditionally been so...I thought that getting bulked up would change how I felt about my bod...but, frankly, it hasn't...still see myself as a skinny ba-link..

When you start looking fit and muscular, you develop a better appreciation for yourself in fitness as well as health.
