I think this song isn't generally considered a sad song. But this was the song when some really bad stuff in my past happened, and ever since I cannot hear this song without having all my insides twisted up.

These two songs were played at my friends funeral recently. They've been a big part of my grieving process. Listening to them brings up his image in my mind and that causes me to miss him.

When my sister died, I was young and at the stage in my life where nothing really hit me. But every time this song came on, there was no stopping me:

    When destiny calls you,
    You must be strong.
I may not be with you,
But you've got to hold on.

I felt like these were direct words from her mouth, and it brought me to tears every time I heard them.

Hurt by Christina Aguilera gets to me every time I hear it. My x and I had been engaged after 4 years together and when we broke up I heard that songs words for the first time and totally related. Word of advice, If you ever break up with someone, NEVER listen to that song.... its just so sad, sad, sad!

This song came out when I was in high school and closeted. It marked the beginning of my self acceptance, so gets me every time. (so if I was to cry to this it would be a happy cry)

This scene of Dr. Green's death from the TV show "ER" starts out with Israel Kamakawiwoʻole's rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" (already posted above) and at 2:30 of the clip, "Benedictus" by Karl Jenkins plays the rest of the way. By far, the saddest TV scene I've ever watched. It hits home hard for anyone who's ever lost someone to a lengthy illness, or simply understands that life is short and none of us are immune from loss or tragedy.

I was lying in my bed last night staring
At a ceiling full of stars
    When it suddenly hit me
I just have to let you know how I feel
We live together in a photograph of time
    I look into your eyes
And the seas open up to me
I tell you I love you
    And I always will
And I know you can't tell me
I know you can't tell me

So I'm left to pick up
The hints, the little symbols of your devotion
So I'm left to pick up
The hints, the little symbols of your devotion

    And I feel your fists
And I know it's out of love
    And I feel the whip
And I know it's out of love
And I feel your burning eyes burning holes
    Straight through my heart
    It's out of love
    It's out of love

I accept and I collect upon my body
    The memories of your devotion
I accept and I collect upon by body
    The memories of your devotion

Give me a little bit serious love
Give me a little full love
    Be full of love

Fists, fists, fists full of love...

This video montage was created as a memorial for my spouse, of almost 17 years, Greg who died from a brain tumour in July, 2010. It was played at his Celebration of Life ceremony.

The song is The Wings That Fly Us Home by John Denver (lyrics by Joe Henry).

It makes me cry everytime I hear it. I miss him so, so much.

Not really cry, but certainly melancholy.
