Fox News talk show host Mike Huckabee is hosting a fundraising event on Facebook to raise money from people who hate gay Americans and who want to elect Huckabee president so Huckabee can block and prevent gay Americans from being treated equally.
Huckabee is going to take the money he raises online from gay haters - and use it to help pay for his presidential campaign.

His campaign is quite literally - backed by bigots.

An art that the Repubs have raised to the level of high art.
The Repubs don't want people to actually focus on what their stands are on the issues, or on their record of gross incompetence and failed policy-making - so it's all about the "culture war" distractions.

And for once, Rick... we just might be in agreement.

The culture wars grow as tiresome as the war on drugs.

I will not support neither Huckabee or Newt in the primaries.

I'm glad to hear that, but Huckabee will be tough to stop.
He's far and away the most popular candidate in the Southern states.
And the earlier primaries will likely be split between several candidates.
Once the Southern primaries begin, Huckabee will win them all and put himself in a dominating position for getting the nomination.

Anyone else smell 2004 in the air? If you can't campaign on promises you still haven't delivered on from the last election, bring in the gays.

Yep, gays are the communists from the 1950s, or the witches from the Middle Ages. Republicans always need an enemy to campaign against, rarely something to campaign FOR. The latter would beg for a plan that might be analyzed and critiqued.

The other popular boogeymen for Republicans is to call everyone else socialists. That's their new buzzword they hope you'll interpret as communist, following the demise of the USSR. We've never had any significant numbers of socialists in the US, but suddenly all Democrats are socialists. Just madness.

You read it right here, from RJ members: President Obama is a Muslim socialist. And *I* am a socialist, too. Odd, because I was raised wealthy, went to exclusive private schools, became a senior Army Officer. I wear a black bow tie and a tuxedo more often than I wear a business suit these days, but I'm a socialist. Yeah, right... icon_rolleyes.gif

So I agree, we gays can expect another assault on us like in 2004, to bring out the Republican base. And the usual suspects here (and you know who they are without my naming them) will be cheering the Republicans on. They already are. It's gonna get ugly, and I anticipate we'll lose some ground. icon_sad.gif

When it becomes clear that Huckabee is the one who's going to be the Repub nominee - based on his complete control over all other potential nominees in the Southern states - many self-loathing Repubs WILL give their campaign contributions to Huckabee.
Just like they gave their campaign dollars to Bush Jr. - even though Bush Jr. used anti-gay hate and put anti-gay-marriage amendments on the ballots in swing states in 2004 to try to get out the gay-hating Repub base.

Mike Huckabee is a horrible embarrassment to the GOP. I will never support his candidacy because he is a narrow-minded, bible thumping screwball who hides behind the facade of lowering taxes and less government just to advance his extremist religious agenda. He could care less about taxes and government bureaucracy. Mr. Huckabee is just interested in turning America into a theocratic dictatorship. I hope the GOP leadership finds better and more moderate presidential candidates or they can just forget about winning the White House in 2012.

He couldn't even get 200 supporters by the due date! Blank Facebook pages get more support in a weekend then he got. All his comments are from GLBT supporters ripping him to shreds, so he apparently doesn't know how to police his own event either.
    I consider this good news.

Mike Huckabee is an idiot. He represents everything regressive socially about the republican party. I'm sure he will go down in flames, as he should!

John Thune should have stayed in the running as the Republican candidate for the presidency. I recall on CNN where they mentioned that he would pose the biggest threat to President Obama's chance of getting re-elected. With contenders like Palin, Huckabee, Gringrich, et al., it might have been an easy victory.

For a good laugh about Mike Huckabee...

Have a look at the first 1:22 of this video from the Canadian comedy show This Hour Has 22 Minutes from 2001 which gave Canada its first exposure to Mike Huckabee when he was Governor of Arkansas.

I disagree. The way Republican primaries work his Southern charm wont help much. The first four primaries are Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina. Romney won Iowa, came in a very close second in NH (beating the pants off Huck). He beat the crap out of him again in Nevada.

And then we have to figure in the other likely candidates. Ron Paul (bleh) is polling surprisingly well and Tim Pawlentry should loom large. Newt is already shooting himself in the foot with regards to his strategy.

Huckabee is a charismatic guy with a lot of appeal for the conservative base. He has the social conservative bonafides of Santorum and the economic conservative appeal of a Romney. I am not of the opinion that social conservatism is going to be as big a selling point this season as economics. The conservatives are winning the media narrative on the economy and the Democrats limp-dicked approach hasn't helped one bit. It will be interesting how the now legitimized tea party wing plays a role in the whole shit show but so far I do not see a winning candidate for the general. They are all polling monumentally awfully.
