I de-activated my account. I was amazed at just how little I miss facebook. I may re-activate my account at a later time, but right now I kind of enjoy all the extra time I have (seriously, I was facebook stalking my friends constantly!!). Has anyone de-activated or deleted their facebook account? If so, why? just curious...

I deleted my Facebook account when they first ran afoul of Canadian Privacy laws. When they said they fixed it to coply I signed up again - and everything that I haddeketed was back (which was what the Privacy Commissioner had said violsted Privacy laws! So they still were not in comnliance and then the Privacu commissioner raised more concerns, so I made SURE it was well and truly deleted about 2 years ago. I dont miss it. But on occasion I rely on my partner's Facebook acct to find somone.

I deactivated my Facebook account about a month ago.

    Don't miss it one bit.
I realize I don't care that someone posts a picture of their dog/kid/parents/dinner/etc.

My lack of interest in the mundane and the fact that Facebook wants to keep posting personal things about me to everybody, I don't think I want to have an account on there anymore.

I can stop whenever I want

I check in a couple of times a day, but spend only a few minutes there each time. So far it's not a time-drain, but has also not been a boon for my social life. Ho-hum

I've dropped it once when I needed a brake from everyone. Then reactivated it to stay up to date with friends etc. I go through periods of extreme to little or no use last a week or two either way.

Haven't deleted it, but haven't looked at it in about a month.

As near as I can figure, it's just turned in to the new AOL - a tiny crippled little slice of the internet for people who can't figure out how to use the real web.

Facebook has it's place in my life. I don't see deactivating it. I'm not on it all that much though. Actually, I'd say I'm on RJ about twice as often.

Yes. People constantly complain about facebook and such taking away their privacy and being such a problem. The weird thing is, facebook didn't figure out your phone number, where you live, if you're in a relationship, or what you had for dinner.... the user puts in all that information. So who's fault is it that the user's privacy has been 'violated'?

I deactivated facebook about 6 months ago (after my ex started dating someone and constantly posted photos of them together)... Wasn't sure about deleting the account completely. I've not logged on or even thought about facebook since deactivating it. I think the shock value of saying "I'm not on Facebook" to guys is was more fulfilling than being on Facebook. However, I noticed I wasn't invited to as many parties this past holiday season, since most of the invites are all on FB.

I have deactivated my account a few times. I have a couple reasons for it, to get work and schoolwork done with less distraction and to get back to reality. I don't believe I should let anything control me and sometimes I feel like Facebook can do exactly that.

I keep an account on Facebook. But there were times I had thoughts about deleting it. When I shared this to one or two of my closest friends, one a lonely female who never married almost begged me not to close my account, as she takes a lot of comfort in some of my witty remarks posted.
All of my friends are people I know personally, and on the privacy settings, I avoid the "Friends of friends" option. Like this, people I don't know or only see me around from time to time don't have access.
Nevertheless, I have never posted my home address or telephone number on my profile, all my friends have these without the help of Facebook, and my e-mail address is reserved for friends only.
Like this I can enjoy Facebook without feeling that my privacy is under threat.

I went off grid and got rid of it while I was seeking employment, but otherwise, it's a great way for me to keep in touch with all my college friends that don't get to see since I moved.
