Are there gay people that do NOT want to date a mirror image?

I notice from browsing forums and hearing comments from gays in person that people always seem to mention they only want someone that looks like them. Almost all the guys that I've wanted to talk to and get to know look NOTHING like me, and I guess I feel like I'll be single forever because I don't want to date a mirror image and people think that's wrong. Especially since 95% of guys don't look like me to begin with, haha.

the image that "I" see in the mirror has never been a "turn on" for me.

lucky for me, other guys seem to tolerate it.

That has not been the case for me. My last three boyfriends have been skinny white boys. I've dated all sizes, colors and ages but none have actually looked like me.

I don't think a guy is looking for a mirror image of themselves but at the same time you need to take into consideration in regards to this site... With the Real jock title...A guy needs to assume that the members of this site are looking for in shape guys who view fitness as an important quality there seeking in others...Personally...If a guy is packin some extra weight but is truly working towards building muscle or leaning out...I don't hold that against them.....BUD

Great thread. I don't want to date anyone that looks or acts like me either. Prefer a bit of variety in life.

I am the stereotype of this. My friends regularly make fun of the fact that I tend to be attracted to guys who are just like me. Not necessarily my twin (I am not THAT shallow) but tall, outgoing, fit (-ish), like to travel etc etc.

So I must be in that 95%, but in my defense I can't really choose who I desire and I do regularly go out on dates with guys outside of my comfort zone. But we never seem to have a connection. I think part of this is that opposites often do not attract and a person who is really similar to you is one you can share common interests and have fun with.

Well, I'm attracted to several opposites of me icon_biggrin.gif

As far as "special interests" there has to be some common ground but there can be striking differences. I am not into playing rugby or lifting heavy weights, but if my boyfriend likes that a lot, and we both share tons of other things, I don't see that a problem. It's like if my boyfriend doesn't care at all about rock music or videogames or playing tennis, but have other things in common. It's like, everyone I know has interests that they like that I just am NOT into, so if that's the thing that would make them not want to have a relationship, I feel I'll be single forever.

As far as looks go, almost everyone I liked or want to talk to would never look like me if we were standing side by side. Not that I hate the way I look, but that's what I tend to like and what is actually out there.

Define mirror image. Are we talking from the neck up, neck down or both? Because I don't see myself dating a guy that looks like me from the neck up since I think my face is too unique.

Both, in a general sense. I guess a face is more unique than a body, but as far as body types goes, most don't ever look like mine, but some are similar. Facewise, almost never looks like me.

I dont think wether they look like me or not is an issue.. ive liked people that were the same type, and people that were completely different... personality is always the deciding factor anyway

I'm all about the tall, dark, and handsome. So...I definitely don't have the first two, but I can pretend I have the last one. icon_wink.gif

Personality, I definitely go for the opposite of me. I'm a lil more introverted (places with tons of new people, such as bars, are difficult for me), so I like to date guys that are extroverted because that balances me out well.

Well I strive towards something I think is attractive and I'm doing okay so yeah I would probably find a guy that looked like me attractive. I might think he was a bit skinny but really that would be nitpicking and you shouldn't fault someone for something you yourself isn't able to get a grip on.

But there are guys I find very attractive with very different builds and faces from mine.

Wasn't your last thread on whether muscle guys go for guys like you?

Sorta, I like guys who happen to be muscular, but not the only reason. But, it's like "Wow, you're muscular, but I'm scared they ONLY like muscular people, and I'll be alone forever".

I wouldn't want to date a clone of myself, everyone I've ever liked and wanted to talk to look nothing like me haha.

I feel like people would force me to ONLY date someone who looks like me and nothing more, and that would make me sad, seeing as there are SO many guys who look nothing like me. My appearance means NOTHING of what I want to find in a guy, it's only a matter of what I am. I feel like if people force me to date clones of myself and nothing more, I would be miserable and forced to never be happy in a relationship.
